On May 28, Rolling Stone published an expose on hip-hop mogul Diddy titled “Bad Boy For Life: Sean Combs’ History of Violence” which had several excerpts from his former employees, associates, partners, and more, obtained by the outlet in the last six months.

Among them was Kalenna Harper, the former member of the Diddy – Dirty Money musical trio. However, unlike most people in the article, she came to Sean Combs’ defense.

She recalled the time spent with Diddy as part of the group and called it one of the “highs” of her life. Not only that but Kalenna Harper called Sean Combs “f*cking cool as sh*t” and claimed that the artists who blame him for damaging their careers suffer from “disgruntled employee syndrome.”

Kalenna Harper and Diddy won the 2010 BET Award

Kalenna Harper is a 41-year-old singer and songwriter hailing from Philadelphia who worked in R&B, gospel, and soul music since her young days. However, she soon incorporated elements of pop, rock, and hip-hop in her music.

She is best known as one of the three members of the group Diddy – Dirty Money, alongside Sean Combs and Dawn Richard. The musical trio was formed in July 2009 and they disbanded in 2012.

During their time together, they released two mixtapes, singles Angels, Loving You No More (feat. Drake), and Love Come Down, as well as an album called Last Train to Paris (2010). The group was signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Records and Interscope.

Also, a creative visionary, Kalenna Harper has won a few accolades for her contribution to music including the 2010 BET Award for Best New Group with Combs and Richard, and the Russian Music Award among others.

Later, she also worked with Puff on The Love Album: Off the Grid in September 2023.

Besides Combs and Richard, Kalenna also collaborated with other musicians and groups. She has singing credits on Three 6 Mafia’s Shake My (2009), Maino’s Don’t Say Nothin’ (2010), D. Brown’s Beatbox (2010), DJ Antoine and Timati’s Welcome to St. Tropez (2011), Ja Rule’s To The Top (2011), and James Worthy’s Oceans (2019).

Kalenna Harper also has songwriting credits for Aretha Franklin and Fantasia’s Put You Up On Game (2007), Christina Aguilera’s Bionic (2010), Trina and Lady Gaga’s Let Them H*es Fight (2009), and more recently Crystal Tamar’s Nowhere and Gasoline (both in 2019) among others.

She also released her solo mixtape titled Chamber of Diaries in 2012 and was a supporting cast member on the VH1 reality series Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta from 2014 to 2015.

As per IMDb, Harper is married to Tony Vick and has two sons, Mesach and Noah.

While Kalenna shared positive feedback about working with Diddy in the recent Rolling Stone expose, she previously pinned the disbandment of Diddy – Dirty Money on Sean Combs.

During the July 2023 interview with DJ Kash for AMP’s The Come Up show, the singer-songwriter claimed that the group never released a second album as the Bad Boy Records mogul began prioritizing other business ventures, particularly CIROC.

“Okay, so it was never another album because CIROC was his next album. He’s like, ‘Do I keep dealing with these two baldhead b*tches, or do I jump on this CIROC that ain’t gon talk back? [It] ain’t arguing.’ Listen, Dirty Money started to become something that he didn’t think was going to happen,” she mentioned back then.

Kalenna Harper also added that Diddy had a hard time accepting “two Leo women,” aka, herself and Dawn Richard taking the lead in the group. In 2012, right after the group split, Richard echoed similar sentiments during her interview with Billboard.
