Sean “Diddy” Combs’ twin daughters D’Lila and Jessie are seemingly under the care of their late mother Kim Porter’s close friend Lala, TMZ exclusively reported on September 17, 2024. The news came a day after federal agents in New York City arrested Diddy following a grand jury indictment.
According to the outlet, while Diddy’s three adult sons Quincy, Justin, and Christian “King” Combs were by his side during his recent court appearance and arrest, his 17-year-old twin girls have been in Los Angeles with family friend Lala.
While not much is known about Kim Porter’s “best friend,” her real name is Lawanda Lane as per her bio on Instagram (@lalaelizalane), where she also describes herself as, “a mom, auntie,” who works in fashion.
“I Work with amazing people, travel, music, and movies. Lover of God, a conduit,” the bio read.
Lala has over 16,900 followers on the platform where she often shares old pictures with Kim Porter and recent ones with her kids, including D’Lila and Jessie, as well as their brothers.
On May 2024, Lala dedicated a post to her friends, including Porter. She wrote how she missed her "tribe" and how they "had unconditional love for each other." Tagging Porter in the caption, Lala wrote,
"We move forward , just want to say I miss you all. We all loved each other through thick and thin. ESPECIALLY @ladykp (IG handle of Kim Porter) 😎😘😘 missing you all today 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾"
In another post from April this year, Lala posted an image of her and Kim and wrote,
"My sister , my bestie and my heart forever @ladykp you never know what a true friendship is until, you have to step up and for Kim , me and a few others are holding you down 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️😘😘"
As per TMZ, Lala has been a caregiver for the twins for many years but is reportedly not their legal guardian. She seemingly “oversees their day-to-day schedules” and acts as a “mother figure.”
All you need to know about Diddy and Kim Porter’s twin daughters in the wake of the former’s arrest
Hip-hop magnate Sean Combs is a father of seven children, including teenage daughters D’Lila Star Combs and Jessie James Combs. They were born in December 2006 to the rapper and his former late partner Kim Porter. While the couple parted ways in 2007, they remained co-parents until she passed from lobar pneumonia in 2018.
Jessie and D’Lila, who were named after their parents’ grandmothers, are currently students at the Los Angeles preparatory school called Sierra Canyon School. They are part of the cheerleading team.
In this regard, the twins told Rolling Stone during an interview in February 2022 how they had “no experience” in cheerleading before.
“I just wanted to try it because it was fun. Before this year, when I was in middle school here at Sierra, I saw the other cheerleaders cheering and it looked so much fun, I wanted to try it,” Jessie mentioned.
D’Lila too shared her sister’s views and added how they have “so much fun,” cheerleading. Earlier this year, the twins also posted on their Instagram (@the_combs_twins) how they won a national cheerleading competition at Disneyland.
Besides cheerleading, Diddy’s daughters are also aspiring models and frequently walk on runways and attend fashion shows.
For instance, in August 2021, they along with their elder sister Chance Combs (Diddy’s daughter with ex-girlfriend Sarah Chapman), walked for Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda event in Venice, Italy.
They also shared glimpses of the event on their joint social media account.
Similarly, in May 2023, the Combs twins appeared on the cover of V Magazine alongside Chance and shared how their modeling ambition was inspired by their late mother.
“It was very inspiring, watching her [Kim Porter] try on the clothes and take pictures. We always would watch her and know that that’s what we wanted to do,” D’Lila shared.
Since then, they have appeared on the Miami Swim Week in July 2023 as well as on the magazine covers of Vanity Fair and Essence among others, posing with their elder sister and father.
Not only that but Jessie and D’Lila also acted as backup dancers for Diddy’s performance of I’ll Be Missing You during last year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
At the same event, the teenage twins also presented their father with the Global Icon Award and exhibited the album cover of The Love Album: Off the Grid during his acceptance speech. Later, they took to Instagram and showered praises for Diddy by writing:
“We are soooo proud of our amazing ICONIC Dad!!! He is our hero and deserves the world,” they wrote. “We are so happy we got to experience and celebrate this big moment with him. WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH @diddy.”
Apart from being active on Instagram, Jessie and D’Lila also have joint TikTok and YouTube accounts, where they often share moments from their daily lives, including wearing their signature matching outfits.
In December 2022, they celebrated their 16th birthday in the presence of Diddy, Quincy, Chance, and Coi Leray, who performed at the party, organized by the Bad Boy Records owner.
Sean Combs was taken into federal custody on the evening of Monday, September 16, from Park Hyatt Hotel on West 57th Street, Manhattan, New York City, following the indictment by a jury.
The 14-page indictment revealed that Diddy is currently being held on three felony counts including racketeering, s*x trafficking by force, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
During Tuesday's court hearing in Manhattan, the US Magistrate Robyn Tarnofsky denied his bail, where Diddy pled “not guilty.” If convicted on all three charges, the hip-hop mogul is looking at a prison sentence of 15 years to life.
