Lil Durk, the son of Big Durk, was arrested in Florida last Thursday, October 24, on charges of murder-for-hire. His arrest is in connection with the 2022 shooting incident that resulted in the death of Saviay'a Robinson, the cousin of his longtime rival, Quando Rondo.

The news of the Pelle Coat rapper's arrest comes five years after his father, Dontay 'Big Durk' Banks, was released from prison. Big Durk was arrested back in 1993 when Lil Durk was still an infant and served a 26-year sentence before he was able to appeal the life-long bid.

According to the FBI's statement shared by CBS News, the 3 Headed Goat rapper was attempting to flee the country before his arrest. Investigators also believe that the shooting from two years ago was intended to kill Quando Rondo, the news outlet reported.

Big Durk adopted a new name after his return from prison

According to his official website, Big Durk, who calls himself "the change agent," had ten siblings and was the fourth of his parents' children. All three of his elder brothers were in prison already. As the eldest sibling who wasn't behind bars, Dontay took over the responsibility of his family from a young age.

Banks didn't have a father, and his mother was a drug addict. It was her addiction that led to the family being evicted from their home. As the family relocated, Big Durk decided not to join them and started living in a car parked near their old home instead.

Durk continued to attend school for some time, after which he found "an illegal way to make a lot of money." This involvement in illegal activities resulted in Big Durk receiving a life sentence. By that time, he had a family of his own and was a father of five, with the No Auto Durk rapper being his youngest.

After serving 26 years of prison sentence, Big Durk returned home in February 2019. Since then, he changed his name to Abdul Haqq. According to his website, Haqq now serves as a mentor to at-risk youth, using "his life and history with the gang culture" to relate to them and present himself as a bad example.

Big Durk appeared on The Chi podcast in 2022

On May 25, Abdul Haqq appeared on The Chi podcast, where he recalled the day of his arrest back in 1993. He alleged that he was promised freedom in exchange for snitching on Larry Hoover, the co-founder of Gansta Disciple, an offer he chose to refuse.

Abdul Haqq said:

"I went in my pocket, pulled out the card to my lawyer, slid it on the table and said, 'Call my lawyer.' And, from then on, here I am, 26 years later, a free man."

The When We Shoot rapper's father continued:

"Without telling, without compromising, without being something I'm not. Rats, stool pigeons, people who tell things to get out...We don't live this type of life. I'm a Muslim first and foremost. No doubt about it. But, even in Islam, we don't believe in telling. We don't believe in rats. We don't believe in stool pigeons."

Toward the end of the interview, Haqq reinforced his message by recalling a line from the 2005 Jeezy song, Soul Survivor:

"If you ever get caught up, don't mention my name."

According to XXL Magazine, Abdul Haqq was arrested in 1993 for his involvement in a cocaine distribution ring. At the time of his arrest, authorities reportedly seized $8 million in cash from him.

Lil Durk is being held in the Broward County Jail in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Just hours before the Pelle Coat rapper's arrest, five other members of his hip-hop group, OTF, were arrested in California.
