Lil' Troy has many successful singles under his credits: Career and other details explained
The rapper started his career when he formed a record label called Short Stop Records in Houston, Texas. He then slowly started to focus on his solo career as a rapper, and while he has released multiple songs over the years, the song that fans loved the most was Wanna Be a Baller.
Troy wrote the lyrics to the song, which was featured in the soundtrack of the 2018 basketball simulation video game, NBA 2K19. Wanna Be a Baller also managed to grab the 70th spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 alongside other charts.
In an interview with Passion of the Weiss in 2015, Troy opened up about why he launched his record label. He explained that his parents were part of a band, adding that he also joined a band when he was in high school.
He noted that all these contributed to his journey in the music industry, stating that if they made music, they "could make enough money to move from selling drugs."
"We figured if we made music, we could make enough money to move from selling drugs and stuff, ya know? So we made a song with Scarface called "Small Time, Dope Game, Cocaine", which was a song about me and my younger brother, and what we were doing growing up. We put it out, and next thing you know it became an anthem everywhere."
Lil' Troy recalled the time when Wanna Be a Baller was being made, saying that he started the process with "no verses" for around a month. He said that he slowly added features to the track, claiming that "everybody was jumping on it."
The now 58-year-old rapper also said that he went to the radio station to buy "a whole lot of commercial time" for the Kappa Beach Party '99. Troy recalled how he played Wanna Be a Baller's first verse on the commercial for an entire minute.
Lil' Troy's debut album Sittin' Fat Down South was released in June 1998, and it reached the 20th spot on the US Billboard 200. His second album, Back to Ballin also received a positive response. He additionally became famous for his songs like Small Time, Where's the Love, and We Gon' Lean.
Fans are awaiting additional details of the rapper's heath following the heart attack.
