Martin Lee, a singer and songwriter best known as a member of the pop group Brotherhood of Man, passed away on September 29, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on November 26, 1946, His demise was announced in a statement via Facebook by Brotherhood of Man.
In the statement confirming the singer's death, the band stated:
"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our great friend and colleague Brotherhood of Man’s Martin Lee who slipped peacefully away on the evening of Sunday 29th September 2024 from heart failure after a short illness."
The statement also mentioned that Martin would be missed by his fellow band members Lee Sheriden, and Nicky Stevens, and his wife of 45 years Sandra Stevens. The band ended their statement by mentioning:
"Over the past 50 years the four of us have toured the world together in harmony and have so many happy memories but now we are in total shock and cannot imagine a world without Martin Lee. R.I.P."

According to ITV, Martin Lee was born in 1946 in Purely, London, and spent five years of his youth in Australia. Tony Hiller, the manager of Brotherhood of Man, added him to the group as the main guitarist and vocalist in 1972 alongside Sandra Stevens, Nicky Stevens, and Lee Sheriden.
Martin was brought to the band after Hiller's initial line-up for Brotherhood of Man disbanded. Martin married Sandra Stevens in August 1979 and the two stayed together for 45 years. The singer had a daughter from his first marriage and she was born in 1973.
As for his career, Martin Lee was the lead vocalist on Save Your Kisses For Me which became the song that made Brotherhood of Man win Eurovision in 1976. The track got the band to Eurovision with 164 points which was 70 points ahead of Switzerland that won second place. Additionally, the song was number 1 in 31 countries and became the Guinness book best-selling Eurovision single of all time.

In January 2022, Martin Lee appeared for an interview with Express wherein he talked about the changes in the music arena and how he wasn't convinced to take part in modern-day Eurovision.
Asking "What's the point?", the singer stated:
"The music has slipped away a little bit. Songs are not songs anymore, they're just sounds."
The publication mentioned that many British bands and artists have distanced themselves from the Eurovision after Brexit. However, Martin viewed the event as having changed drastically since he participated in it. Questioning the changes in Eurovision since he participated, the singer stated:
"If you can't sing with an orchestra anymore, what's the point?"
In their Facebook post announcing Martin's demise, Brotherhood of Man mentioned that apart from being a "wonderful singer", the singer co-wrote a lot of hits for the brand with Lee Sheriden.
The post stated Martin's achievements citing 3 Ivor Novello awards, 26 Platinum, Gold & Silver Discs, and an ASCAP Shield for penning down a top 10 hit in the United States.
