With five studio albums, four solo headlining world tours, and numerous awards and achievements under her belt, Nicki Minaj is the true queen of rap. As the female rapper with the most top 10 hits on Billboard to date, Minaj has secured an irreplaceable position for herself in the rap industry.
Beyond her rapping skills, Nicki Minaj is also a talented voice-over artist, having voiced several characters in popular franchise animated movies so far. One of the movies featuring Minaj's voice work is The Angry Birds Movie 2. In the movie, Minaj voices the character of Pinky— a tall, bright pink bird with brown plumes, a nose-billed beak, and happy-go-lucky nature.
Released on August 14, 2019, the movie was the direct sequel to the debut Angry Birds movie that hit the Box Office three years ago. The second movie wasn't as big a success as its predecessor, grossing $152.8 million, while the first one made $352 million.
Nicki Minaj's character hosts a bird dating event in Angry Birds 2
Pinky— voiced by Nicki Minaj— is a happy and talkative bird in the Bird Village who often goes around chatting with her friends. She's one of the many residents who praised Red as the village's hero. However, she also accepts the truce between pigs and birds wholeheartedly, which Red finds annoying.
Pinky was also the one who came up with the idea of— and hosted— a Speed Dating event in the village, which turned out to be a bust when Red stormed out of it.
However, Pinky shows immense faith in Red's ability to protect the village, and also reassures other residents of it as they worry when Red decides to head to Eagle Island. At the end of the movie, Pinky also attends the wedding of Zeta and the Mighty Eagle.
Besides Nicki Minaj, the other celebrities who voiced the cast of the movie include:
- Jason Sudeikis as Red
- Leslie Jones as Zeta
- Josh Gad as Chuck
- Rachel Bloom as Silver
- Sterling K Brown as Garry
- Peter Dinklage as Ethan
- Zack Woods as Carl
- Tiffany Haddish as Debbie
- Daniel McBride as Bomb
Before Angry Birds 2, Minaj had also voiced a character in Ice Age: Continental Drift
Seven years before Nicki Minaj was cast in Angry Birds as a voiceover artist, Minaj voiced a character in the 2012 Ice Age: Continental Drift— the fourth installment of the franchise.
Nicki voiced the character of Steffie, short for Steffany, in the film, who was one of the teen mammoths hanging around Ethan (played by Drake), on whom Peaches had a crush.
Talking about her character in the animated movie on the Flicks and Bits podcast, the Swalla rapper said:
"Well, [my character] Steffie, she's a cutesy little ladybug, and of course, I call everyone ladybugs if I really love them. But of course, she's not a ladybug, she's huge, but she's so beautiful."
The 41-year-old added:
"She's a mammoth, she has blonde hair and she does really cute stuff with her hair. She does her lashes, she does stuff with mascara. And, you know, she's cutesy! I think she's great."
Elsewhere in the podcast, Nicki Minaj also expressed what "a blessing" and "an honor" it was to be cast in the movie, especially next to Queen Latifah, adding:
"I've looked up to her for so many years, she embodies everything that I'd like to do, you know? She went from acting, she does acting, animation voices - she's everything to me... To be a part of something she's a part of makes me very proud."
Since her voiceover gig in The Angry Birds Movie 2 in 2019, Nicki Minaj has been preoccupied with her music, with her fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2 , released in December 2023.
The rapper is currently on a headlining tour accompanying Pink Friday 2, and has also announced dropping the dates for her sixth album soon.
