Nicki Minaj has established herself as a queen of rap through her music and popularity. In addition to rap, Minaj has occasionally dabbled in acting.

In April 2016, Nicki starred in Barbershop: The Next Cut, an American comedy movie and the third installation of the Barbershop franchise. Minaj played the role of Draya, a new hairdresser hired by Angie for her salon.

Other rap artists featured in the movie include Minaj, Eve, Tyga, Common, and Ice Cube, who has starred in all movies of the franchise. Barbershop: The Next Cut grossed $55 million at the Box Office.

While Barbershop was portrayed as the boy's club in the previous installations, The Next Cut brought in an interesting twist where Calvin and Angie combine their salons and start running the Barbershop together.

Nicki, who plays Draya in the movie, is seen engaged in a love triangle between Terri (played by Eve) and Rashad (played by Common) - the two of whom are dating. At one point in the movie, Terri is seen attacking Draya on the suspicion of her making out with Rashad. This creates a row between the couple, which is resolved later on as Terri realizes the truth, apologizes to Rashad, and the two reconcile.

As is evident in the movie, Eve and Nicki Minaj had many scenes together. Following the movie, Minaj went on to create music while Eve pursued TV projects instead.

Minaj reacted kindly to Eve opening up about starting therapy before shooting for Barbershop

On September 17, 2024, Eve's memoir, Who's That Girl?, was published, containing honest truths and daring revelations about her career as a legendary female emcee.

One such revelation from the Grammy-winner's memoir involved Nicki Minaj. Eve, who acted alongside Minaj in the 2016 movie Barbershop: The Next Cut, opened up about starting therapy before the film's shooting started when she found out about Nicki Minaj's starring role.

Eve talked about women's tendency to project their insecurities on other women and how having been a victim of it in the past, she didn't want to do the same to the Pink Friday rapper. It was for this reason that the older rapper started therapy sessions.

On September 23, Nicki Minaj warmly reacted to the revelation on her X (formerly Twitter) handle. She called it "groundbreaking," praising it even for her "grace," "emotional and spiritual maturity," and "self-reflection."

Further praising her, the Young Money artists wrote:

"I was one of the kids in NY watching Ruff Ryderz on TV. I DEFINITELY remember how when you took the game by storm, that there were some ppl who couldn’t hide their insecurities. Even tho it’s swept under the rug now, I remember that you handled it with grace but ALSO a big sprinkle of unapologetic TALENT & charisma. You soared & soared. Classic music w/the illest team, to the BIG SCREEN. And made it look easy, too."

Nicki then called Eve a "trendsetter" and confessed that working alongside a pro like her made the 41-year-old nervous about coming onto the set every day. Minaj also thanked her for not treating her the way she was treated earlier and, in doing so, breaking the vicious cycle of toxic competition among women.

The Hey Mama rapper ended her tweet by congratulating Eve on her book and sending blessings to her family.

The Tambourine rapper replied warmly to Minaj's touching open letter, thanking her for her words and saying that love and respect were mutual.

She also complimented Nicki by adding that she was proud to see her "grow from strength to strength over the years as an artist, mom" and stay true to herself through it all.

The exchange between the fellow rappers demonstrates a healthy, respectful friendship that artists in the rap industry seldom display.

Nicki Minaj is currently traveling for her Pink Friday 2 world tour, which is scheduled to conclude on October 11. Barbz are anticipating that the rapper will announce the release date of her next album, Pink Friday 3, after returning from the trip.
