Who is Pomme? French singer sampled by Kanye on latest song calls out rapper over unauthorised usage

Well-known French singer Pomme, also known as Claire Pommet, has recently called out Kanye West for reportedly using a sample from her song Soleil Soleil for his upcoming album, Bully. The news comes after a video of Ye went viral, where he was spotted playing a new song in Switzerland, as per HipHopDX.

Pomme has been active in the music industry for around ten years and has released four albums until now. Her latest project, Saisons, came out in March last year and two singles were released in November 2023 and February 2024 respectively.

Pomme shared a statement through her official Instagram page on January 6, 2025, where she addressed Kanye West's snippet by saying:

"I do not know the source of the video and audio content that is circulating these days on social media, but I have never given my consent for the use of this sample for reasons that seem obvious to me, being in deep disagreement with the political positions of this artist that I have nevertheless admired in the past."

Notably, Kanye has not responded to the allegation until now. Detailed information about the album Bully is yet to be revealed by Ye, who is reportedly serving as a producer of the project. In a now-deleted Instagram post shared in October 2024, Kanye shared a cover art of the album but did not disclose a potential release date.

On the other hand, journalist and podcaster Touré claimed in an Instagram video that Bully would be a "concept album" and that Ye was working on it by living in a hotel room in Tokyo. Touré also mentioned:

"He's pulling from an eclectic pool. He's traveled the world a lot so he's aware of a lot more music than probably ever before. So I think sound-wise, it's probably varied. But in a Kanye-esque form."

Pomme has gained recognition for releasing many albums and singles throughout her career

As mentioned, Claire has four albums in her credits, and her performances have received a positive response over the years. According to Cherie FM, Claire developed an interest in music during childhood and even trained herself in different instruments.

However, the most successful album on Pomme's list is Les failles, which helped her to win two awards at an awards ceremony in France called Victoires de la musique. While speaking to Yorkshire Times in 2022, Claire said that she never expected the album to become so successful and added:

"I wrote it while breaking up, in a beautiful house in Bourgogne, France and the only goal that I had was to heal. To try to say things that I couldn't express with words in random conversations. I was 20 or 21 when I wrote the songs and only tried to accept my anxiety, fears and lack of confidence through music."

Apart from her solo projects, the 28-year-old has collaborated with other artists in some singles. This includes Norwegian singer Aurora and the duo joined hands for a song, Everything Matters. Claire addressed her experience working with Aurora by saying she is willing to collaborate with the artist for another time in the future.

Claire revealed that Aurora told her to write the lyrics of a French portion of Everything Matters and sing it. Claire also mentioned:

"I actually contacted her a few years ago to sing one of my songs together and I abandoned the initial idea but our labels kept us connected and we've been getting along really really well from the first call, as if we were childhood friends or cosmic sisters."

Claire is even famous for her EPs like En cavale and Quarantine Phone Sessions. Pomme's debut album, À peu près, was released back in 2017 and she has released several singles throughout her career such as Même robe qu'hier, J'attends, La lumière, and Grandiose.
