Ariana Grande, the singer-songwriter who has seven successful studio albums under her belt, was reportedly named after a certain princess from a cartoon film. According to Beano, the name "Ariana" was actually inspired by "Oriana," which was the name of the princess of the land of Oriana in Felix the Cat: The Movie.
Princess Oriana appeared to be a tall woman with baby blue eyes, blonde hair that went down to her waist, and a ruffled white ankle-length dress with frilled sleeves. While the princess was portrayed as clueless and gullible, she was also tender at heart and affable.
Oriana's special ability were her magical tears, which could become sentient and help her with assisting tasks when she was in desperate need.
Ariana Grande's name was reportedly inspired from a character in a1988 cartoon movie
The 1988 movie, Felix The Cat: The Movie - from which Ariana Grande's name was inspired - was an adaptation of the popular cartoon TV show, Felix The Cat.
The movie's plot is based on interdimensional travel, as Felix and Princess Oriana are not from the same dimension. As Oriana rules her namesake kingdom, she is told by a local fortune-teller - Pearl - that her kingdom is soon going to be attacked by her villainous uncle, the Duke of Zill, who, with his army of robots, wishes to rule the land.
To protect the kingdom from her uncle, Oriana attempts to use an ancient device called the Dimensporter to bring a hero to help save her kingdom from a different dimension. However, her uncle catches her before she can fulfil her plans, and she's captured by the Duke's "Cylinder" robots.
As she's being taken away, Oriana cries, and her magical tear escapes and flies into the Dimensporter, and it is then taken to Felix's dimension, where it urges the cat to help Oriana in her fight against her uncle. As Felix finds the porter in his dimension and uses it to go to Oriana, he's followed by his nemesis, the Professor, and his nephew, Poindexter.
A lot of plot twists and turns materialize as the movie progresses, but ultimately, with the help of Felix the cat, Oriana is able to destroy her uncle's robot army, without the assistance of which he is powerless and so he chooses to flee the country instead, swearing to return. The princess then helps Felix, the Professor, and Poindexter to return to their dimension using the Dimensporter, at which point the movie comes to an end.
Despite being named from a cat-based movie's character, Ariana Grande is allergic to them
The fact that Ariana Grande's name was inspired by a character from a cat-based movie might seem amusing to some, but the singer-songwriter's fate seems to have been intertwined with cats since the beginning of her career.
In 2010, the we can't be friends singer first found out about her cat allergies. Around that time, the teenager was also cast in Nick's Victorious - a TV show in which she played the character of Cat Valentine. Grande worked in Victorious for three whole seasons. Her character was so well-received by the audience that she was re-cast in its spinoff series, Sam & Cat.
Then there's Ariana Grande's unparalleled love for cat ears - the headgear accessory that became so popular after Grande sported them openly in public. She was even invited to collaborate on the release of Brookstone's cat ear headphones in 2016.
The CEO of Brookstone, Steve Goldsmith, had stated how Ariana Grande's "cat ear obsession" fused perfectly with the design and vision of their company and inspired their latest creation - the wireless cat ear headphones.
