Rashida Jones recently shared a tribute for her late father, Quincy Jones, who passed away on November 3, 2024, at the age of 91. According to BBC, Jones’ publicist, Arnold Robinson, had confirmed that the record producer died "peacefully" at his residence in Bel Air.

For the unversed, Rashida was born from Jones' third marriage to Peggy Lipton, an actress and singer who featured on popular shows such as The Mod Squad.

On Friday, November 8, the Angie Tribeca star uploaded an old photo on her Instagram account, where her father had held her in his arms when she was a baby. She began by writing:

"My dad was nocturnal his whole adult life. He kept "jazz hours" starting in high school and never looked back. When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music). He would never send me back to bed."

Rashida Jones mentioned that she always felt safe with Quincy Jones, and described him as a giant, an icon, a culture shifter, and a genius. Rashida further stated that her father used to make everyone "feel loved and seen". She concluded her post:

"I was fortunate enough to experience this love in close proximity. I'll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever."

Rashida had previously directed a documentary based on her father's life in 2018, titled Quincy. The film was released on Netflix, featuring the journey and achievements of Quincy over the years. In an interview with USA Today in September 2018, Rashida Jones said that there were a lot of things to be said about her father and added:

"This is really a starter pack because we had so much footage, and he's lived such a big life. I just cannot believe all of this experience is contained in this one human bring who just happens to be my dad."

Rashida Jones' mother was a popular face in the world of entertainment: Marriage to Quincy Jones and other details explained

Also known as Quincy Delight Jones Jr., he had seven children, including two from his third marriage to Peggy Lipton from 1974 to 1990. Notably, Quincy Jones was married to his second wife Ulla Andersson when he first met Lipton, who was a well-known face in films and television, as per People magazine.

Peggy was active in the entertainment industry since the 60s and she initially tried to build a career as a model. However, she soon began portraying minor roles on TV shows such as Bewitched, Mr. Novak, The Virginian, and Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre.

Lipton eventually gained recognition for her appearance as Julie Barnes in The Mod Squad. She even had some TV films in her credits, including The Spider and the Fly, Justice for Annie: A Moment of Truth Movie, and Deadly Vows.

Peggy Lipton and Quincy Jones' love story dates back to 1969 when they first met on a friend's boat. People magazine stated that they moved in together after dating for two years and tied the knot in 1974. Apart from Rashida Jones, they had another daughter, Kidada Ann Jones.

The same publication reported that Lipton and Jones separated in 1990 due to irreconcilable differences. On July 10, 2001, the former addressed her relationship in an interview which was part of PBS American Masters Documentary. She said that she was living a "lonely life" until she met Quincy Jones. Peggy continued:

"There was Quincy – that protectiveness, that affection, that knowing no matter what I did or no matter what I did or how my behavior manifested itself, there will always be that loving person there to say it's okay to call me and say it's good."

According to Deadline, Lipton was battling colon cancer for around 15 years, which eventually led to her demise in 2019. Quincy Jones expressed his grief on X, adding a photo of himself alongside Lipton, and thanked everyone on behalf of the family for their love and support.

On the work front, Quincy Jones worked with various record labels in his career such as Warner Bros., Columbia, Interscope, and more. He even produced three albums by Michael Jackson and contributed to the soundtrack of films like In the Heat of the Night.
