Who was Reese G? 3Piece members explored as fans pay tributes in wake of R&B artist passing away

Musical artist Reese G of the Chicago-based R&B group 3Piece passed away earlier this week. While the details surrounding his demise remain undisclosed, his brother and bandmate Martin Walker shared the news via Facebook on December 5.

“P&L everyone… Just want to thank you all for your prayers, thoughts, and support... my brother Reese G ThreePiece is officially no longer with us in physical form but he will always remain with us in our hearts and minds…” the post read.

It further went on:

“We've all had our shortcomings more or less, but I'm proud of my brother and what he contributed to my life, our family's lives, our fans' lives, to Chicago music history and beyond... His powerful voice will forever be appreciated by people all over the world… Until we meet again bro, I love you.”

A series of images accompanied the Facebook post. The first one showed two adult men holding each other’s hands. One of the hands was seemingly of Reese lying on the hospital bed. The next one showed young Reese with his family members, while the last image was of a 3Piece poster.

Various other outlets like WGCI and Chicago Media Takeout 1 have also confirmed the death of Reese. In the wake of the announcement, fans have paid their tributes.

“A Chicago staple! 3Piece was IT in the early 2000s. RIP Reese G,” a person wrote.
“Reese G from 3Piece died today… Chicago lost a legend. The nail shops out south better come together in his honor, I know that much,” one person wrote.

Reese G, whose real name is Maurice Walker, was the founding member of the R&B group, 3Piece (often stylized Three Piece). It rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s and comprised two other members, Martin “Lucky” Walker and Jason “JB.”

Reese was the lead singer/ vocalist of the band and was a Chicago native who lived in Miami, Florida, as per his Facebook bio. Both he and his group were known for their distinctive sound, smooth vocals, and charismatic stage presence.

The band debuted with First Come First Served, featuring their hit single Ohh Ahh, which stayed on WGCI radio for a record 42 weeks. Their self-titled follow-up included popular tracks like I Want You and Let’s Ride. They later released Cap and Gown and Take It Back, with their latest album, L.O.V.E., arriving in 2023.

Over the years, Reese and 3Piece collaborated with other artists including Kanye West, Mary J Blige, Omarion, and Jay-Z, among others. Reese G’s legacy will continue to live on in the Chicago music scene.
