"We’re just enjoying the journey and having fun"- Flex on his marriage with Shanice
Ahead of their reality show Flex and Shanice, the duo appeared for an interview with Essence in October 2020 wherein they celebrated the milestone of their 15th wedding anniversary. The publication asked the couple what was the glue holding their marriage together to which the Fall For You singer said it was prayer, adding that it was one of the things that initially attracted her to Flex.
Flex said it was communication as well and that they talked about everything. He also added that their marriage isn't perfect and like every other long relationship they have their ups and downs. Flex mentioned:
"We just said, it’s ride or die—not only for our children, but also for us. We love family. We just keep pushing. We don’t have all of the answers, but we trust in God and we keep praying. Every day we take it as it comes. We’re just enjoying the journey and having fun."
The publication also asked the couple how they keep their marriage intact, given going broke can destroy a relationship. Shanice stated that divorce was never an option when she and Flex got married and there were times when they would lift each other up if either one of them was down. The singer recalled that Flex was positive throughout the time they declared bankruptcy in 2010 and that he assured Shanice saying "God has something planned for us."
While the couple haven't shared a lot of information about their children, the Silent Prayer singer's daughter Imani Shekinah Knox was born in 2001 and her son Elijah Alexander Knox was born in 2004. In April 2024, Imani posted a video of Shanice and Flex dancing and lip-syncing to the theme song from One on One which garnered a lot of appreciation from fans.
