Aerosmith was to perform across North America in 2024 and 2025 as part of the second and third leg of their Peace Out: Farewell Tour. However, the band has now canceled said tour legs because of vocalist Steven Tyler's vocal injury, which he has been struggling with for months.
Refunds for the canceled tour will be available at the point of purchase. Ticketmaster and other vendors are likely to process refunds automatically. Patrons who bought their tickets from third-party vendors such as SeatGeek, Vivid Seats, and so on will need to reach out to those vendors for further details on the refund process.
Aerosmith announced the cancelation of the tour and their retirement from the tour via a post on their official Instagram page on August 2, 2024, in which they thanked their fans, known as the Blue Army, for supporting them since 1970 and stated that they were honored to have performed for them, before detailing the reason for their tour cancelation and retirement,
" We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing. As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury."
The singer continued,
"We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision - as a band of brothers - to retire from the touring stage."
Aerosmith expresses gratitude to fans and supporters
Aerosmith continued to express their gratitude to their fans and supporters in their touring retirement announcement embedded above, stating,
"We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible."
They continued,
"A final thank you to you - the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true."
Steven Tyler's vocal injury happened back in September 2023, when the singer's larynx, one of the key aspects of the respiratory system that helps humans produce sounds and thus sing. The singer also had another undisclosed illness in 2022 which resulted in some tour date cancelations.
The farewell tour was to feature all original Aerosmith band members except Joey Kramer, who excused himself from the tour after some contention in the year preceding the announcement of the tour. The drummer took a leave of absence from the band in 2022.
The now-canceled 2024 and 2025 tour legs would have seen The Black Crowes return as the opening act. The band posted a response to the Aerosmith announcement on their official Instagram page on August 2, 2024, stating,
"We are shocked and saddened by this news from earlier today … nothing but love and respect to our friends in @Aerosmith. Heartfelt thanks for all of the incredible memories …"
Aerosmith's last record releases were the live album Japan Calling in 2022 and the compilation album Greatest Hits, released on August 18, 2023. The latter, a 44-track standard edition, peaked at number 36 on the Billboard 200 album chart after its release.
