Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter was one of the biggest releases of the year in the music industry, and it made Queen Bey peak in several charts, like the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs. However, the album wasn't nominated for Album of the Year at the American Music Awards, and that has confused several fans of the 32-time Grammy winner.
The reason behind Beyoncé not featuring in this year's awards can be discovered in the rules of nomination. A press release from the Academy of Country Music clarified that the time period of consideration for the 2024 American Music Awards is from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. Since, Beyoncé released Cowboy Carter on March 29, 2024, it was not eligible.
Instead, Cowboy Carter will be considered for nomination in the American Music Awards 2025. It will presumably be a strong contender because of the album's popularity and the ratings by acclaimed charts and critics in the industry.

Beyoncé broke several records with her eighth studio album and became the first-ever black woman to reach the peak of the Top Country Albums chart. Cowboy Carter is the second album of a planned trilogy by Beyoncé that takes the world on a musical journey to rediscover America's black roots and spotlights the enormous contribution of black musicians and their culture in helping establish the world we know and love.
The first album of the trilogy was 2022's Renaissance, which was the highest-rated album of the year by publications like Rolling Stones, Los Angeles Times, NPR, Pitchfork, and New York Times.
The album is conceptualized as a fictitious radio station called KNTRY, featuring juggernauts of the industry like Dolly Parton, Linda Martell, Willie Nelson, and others as DJs.
Cowboy Carter incorporates several brands of music including blues, R&B, bluegrass, zydeco, psychedelic soul, hip-hop, and rock and roll. Beyoncé goes back in time to take inspiration from age-old instruments to create beats that don't take the help of modern digital filters and artificial intelligence.
Beyoncé described the album after its release in a statement and talked about the inspiration behind going back to the roots in a generation that is blindly reliant on artificial intelligence and other tools of the computerized world.
"The joy of creating music is that there are no rules. The more I see the world evolving the more I felt a deeper connection to purity," commented Beyoncé.
She continued:
"I wanted to go back to real instruments, and I used very old ones. I didn't want some layers of instruments like strings, especially guitars, and organs perfectly in tune. I kept some songs raw and leaned into folk. All the sounds were so organic and human, everyday things like the wind, snaps and even the sound of birds and chickens, the sounds of nature."

The American Music Awards will take place on October 7, 2024, and Luke Combs currently leads the nomination charts with an impressive eight nominations to his name, including Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year.
