Big Sean recently took to X to defend himself as fans accused him of stealing Baby Keem's flow in the Yes music video. On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, the Detroit rapper dropped the music video for the month-old single from his upcoming album, Better Me Than You.

However, the track sparked a discourse online, with some claiming Sean Don is using Keem's flow while others argued that Sean is just taking inspiration from his older music. Soon both rappers were trending on X, prompting the Tobey rapper to post:

"Must not be familiar wit my game."

Perhaps another reason for Big Sean's comment might be his former beef with Baby Keem's cousin, Kendrick Lamar. An X user, @dirtywhiteups, reposted Sean's Yes video with the comment:

"Kendrick and Baby Keem bout to send Big Sean a cease and desist."

Lamar and Sean's beef began in 2013 when they collaborated (along with Jay Electronica) on the latter's song Control. While the song was meant to be a promotion for his then-upcoming album Hall of Fame, K. Dot's verse in the song, where he claimed he was the king of New York, became one of the biggest moments in hip-hop that year.

Since then, netizens believe both rappers have been subtly dissing each other.

"We already talked about it"- Big Sean about his alleged beef with Kendrick Lamar

Big Sean initially claimed he was alright with Kendrick getting praise for his verse on Control. However, in a 2015 interview with Complex, he admitted that there was a lot of negativity surrounding the song.

Fans believe the two rappers have friction between them, even claiming they took a shot at each other on No More Interviews (Sean) and The Heart Part 4 (Kenny).

Last year, a leaked track (ELEMENT.) by the Comption rapper containing disses aimed at Sean began circulating. He rapped:

"Big Sean keep sneak dissin', I'll let it slide/I think his false confidence got him inspired/I can't make them respect you baby, it's not my job/You finally famous for who you date, not how you rhyme (Boy)/Cute *ss raps, get your puberty up."

In July 2024, Sean Don appeared on On the Radar to perform Aalitah's 1996 track, If Your Girl Only Knew. However, fans speculated that the lyrics were aimed at Kenny. He rapped:

"N*ggas looking for engagement like they got they knee bent/I got better things to do then find someone to beef with."

However, around that time, Sean, in an interview with TMZ, denied dissing Kendrick, adding that the rumors were perpetuated by DJ Akademiks.

In an August 2 interview with Charlamagne Tha God on Out of Context, the Detroit rapper set the record straight. He explained the confusion began on his 2016 song No More Interviews, where he referenced rappers who rhyme fast, and people began speculating he was talking about Kendrick Lamar, which was apparently not the case.

Lamar then dropped The Heart Part 4, which seemed to diss Big Sean. At the time, Sean tried to text Lamar, but the number didn't work, so he reached out to TDE's (Lamar was signed to TDE at the time) Top Dawg, who confirmed there were no issues. Lamar's manager, Dave Free, confirmed the same.

However, Sean explained that podcaster Joe Budden and the internet continued to build a narrative of a beef between them. He told Charlamagne:

"He made that narrative so f*cking real that I think it really did become a thing. So I get to the point where I’m like damn, should I have something prepared?"

After Kendrick's track leaked in 2023, Sean Don was surprised. However, he realized that it was an older song (from 2018), and Lamar changed the lyrics in the official version.

Big Sean decided to stop feeding into the narrative and reached out to Lamar. Sean explained that the Compton rapper apologized for the bars, and they squashed their beef.

"I’m not a clout chasing *ss n*gga, bro. I’m solid. I stand on mine and I’m not about to do something because everyone thinks a certain thing. We already talked about it. I already got an apology for it."

Sean added that he was tired of the narrative that he didn't take a stand for himself, adding that if there was real smoke, he would have been in the front and center of it.

Kendrick Lamar or Baby Keem have not publicly reacted to the development.

Big Sean's Better Me Than You is set to drop at the end of August.
