Catfish And The Bottlemen canceled their shows due to "band illness"
Welsh indie band, Catfish and The Bottlemen were all set to perform at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday, September 4. However, hours before they took the stage, ticket-holding fans received a notification from their respective ticket providers stating that the band had canceled Wednesday's gig along with the rest of their shows scheduled in Australia.
A statement issued to Frontier Touring, Moshtix, and Ticketek, along with Secret Sounds, read:
"Catfish and The Bottlemen want to thank the fans for their support. This weekend they were hoping to still be able to perform but on doctor orders they were forced to cancel their show in Dublin."
The statement continued:
"Due to band illness, the Australian dates this month will also no longer be going ahead. The band were really looking forward to these shows and sincerely apologise to everyone for any inconvenience and disappointment."
In conclusion to their statement, the band thanked the fans for their understanding and continued support. Ticket-holders were to be refunded the full amount via their original method of payment. Fans were left disappointed as this was the first time in five years that the band was set to tour Australia.
Six shows in total were canceled as part of the band's Australian tour. Apart from Wednesday's gig, the other canceled shows include, A Festival Hall, Melbourne gig on September 6, a show in Bar On The Hill in Newcastle the following day, and a Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane show on the 8th of September.
After a one-day break, the band was supposed to hit Hindley Street Music Hall, Adelaide on September 10 before concluding their Australian tour with a final gig at Perth's Red Hill Auditorium on September 12. After their September gigs, the band was all set to tour America in October and November.
However, according to Sky News Australia, ticket holders in the United States and Canada also started receiving notifications regarding the cancellation of the band's shows in October and November. The official X account for Concert Leaks also announced that the band axed their North American tour.
As noted in the aforementioned statement, Catfish And The Bottlemen canceled their show in Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday night, August 31, only 15 minutes before the doors were set to open at the RDS Simmonscourt in south Dublin. This was supposed to be the band's first Irish gig in five years.
The band was subjected to social media outrage despite apologizing to all their fans for the inconvenience and informing people that refunds were available from the point of purchase. The official reason given for the cancellation of the show was "artist illness".
Apart from the aforementioned statement provided on the various ticket-selling platforms, Catfish And The Bottlemen is yet to release an official social media statement on the cancellation of their Australian and American gigs.
