Chappell Roan is undeniably the biggest breakout pop star of the year 2024. Be it her ongoing The Midwest Princess Tour, her performance at the Lollapalooza festival, or her controversial get-up at the Governors Ball, the 26-year-old drives attention wherever she goes.
Roan was set to perform on Saturdays of Lollapalooza's sister event, the ACL Music Festival - held in Austin, Texas, on the first two weekends of October 2024. However, on August 16, 2024, the festival announced changed dates for Chappell Roan's performance on their social media handle.
According to the Austin American-Statesman, the reason behind Roan's performance being moved from Saturday to Sunday was an artist dropping off the fest lineup.
CAAMP will replace Chappell Roan's Saturday sets at the ACL Festival
According to the announcement by the festival's organizers on August 16, CAAMP, a folk trio band from Arlington, Ohio, will be replacing Chappell Roan's set on both Saturdays - at 4:20 PM - at the ACL Festival.
Meanwhile, the Femininomenon singer will now be performing on Sundays of the two weekends at 6:45 PM. When the Austin American-Statesman reached out to ACL's organizers for a comment regarding the change, here is what their statement included:
"Recently, an artist dropped off the ACL Fest lineup. When this happens, we look at ways to get creative with our programming to enhance the fan experience and provide opportunities to artists who have grown significantly since they were initially booked."
Regardless of the reason behind Roan's set being moved, the news has upset many fest-goers, especially those who purchased a one-day pass for Saturday only to see Chappell perform.
The angered netizens took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their contempt. Some even called the move of sets a plan to sell more tickets.
"You’re f***ing kidding right? Obviously only doing this to sell tickets for the other days. Less than two months before the concert and thousands of people booked non-refundable flights and one day passes. Greedy f***s." - wrote an X user.
"You guys just straight up stole money from so many people who bought Saturday tickets for Chappel. What an absolute joke of music festival you guys are holy sh*t this is unacceptable." - wrote another.
Others demanded refunds or exchanges for the tickets they purchased.
"What an absolute terrible move. So many people made plans specifically to see and now you scr***d us out of that opportunity. Allow refunds at the very least so we don’t have to pay for people we didn’t want to see." - a netizen posted.
"This was false advertising for everyone who bought Saturday day passes. You MUST honor refunds for those of us who cannot make it on Sunday due to the Chappell Roan switch. This is fraudulent." - another one wrote.
"Are you f*cking serious??? I bought a saturday only wristband with the intention of seeing her and not only do you move her but you also refuse to do exchanges or refunds???" - posted a third user.
Meanwhile, one user pointed out that the change shouldn't have been such a surprise for the ticket-buyers, writing:
"im sorry but i feel no pity for people who bought a single day ticket to ignore every artist but one despite every single stop on the purchasing journey saying in big bold letters “LINEUP SUBJECT TO CHANGE”. its a music festival, not a headline show"
The change comes after Chappell Roan's show at the Lollapalooza 2024 drew an incredible crowd at the event. A spokesperson of the festival told CNN News:
"Chappell’s performance was the biggest daytime set we’ve ever seen. It was a magical moment added to Lolla’s DNA."
Roan, who is currently also in the middle of her sophomore headlining tour - The Midwest Princess Tour - had the first two weekends of October empty to be able to perform at the ACL.
Her tour concludes on October 11, 2024, with her last two shows taking place in Austin itself, meaning that the Casual singer would be in Austin for the entire two weeks for the festival.
Besides Chappell Roan, the other major artists scheduled to perform on the Saturdays of the ACL Festival include Dua Lipa, Teddy Swims, Pretty Lights, Reneé Rapp, Vince Staples, and Remi Wolf.
