Hip-hop duo Clipse recently revealed that their most awaited reunion album is scheduled to arrive this year. The upcoming project is titled Let God Sort Em Out. The pair includes rappers No Malice and Pusha T, and they split in 2010.
The reason for the duo's separation was their manager Anthony Gonzales' involvement in a legal issue where he was sentenced to 32 years on charges of drug trafficking. No Malice addressed the same in his documentary in 2016, saying that the cops were investigating everyone related to them, and he was unable to deal with scrutiny by the cops.
Meanwhile, Clipse revealed the details of their new album in a recent interview with writer Andre Gee of Rolling Stone. The article revealed that Let God Sort Em Out features a verse by Nas and Malice said that there are a lot of "nuances" included in the project, which are necessary to send an important message to people.
The album is produced by Pharrell Williams and Pusha T stated that this will not mark an end for Clipse. He added that Williams had told the same thing to them and continued:
"Pharrell calls with that energy every morning, bro. 'I was listening to the album in the truck last night. I'm going to try some new sh*t tomorrow.' I'm like, 'Come on, bro. Get the mix done with this one.'"
The article also disclosed more information about the album and it says:
"The whole album is laced with a tag of a woman saying, 'this is culturally inappropriate'; they tell me it was originally going to be a watermark for advances, but they liked it so much they kept it."
Meanwhile, a release date for the album is yet to be confirmed by Clipse.
Clipse released multiple successful albums and singles in their career
Although Clipse was active for only 16 years, they managed to deliver a lot of hit projects that managed to grab the top positions on the charts. They even collaborated with popular faces such as Kanye West, which made them a popular face among the public.
The credit for their success goes to rapper Pharrell Williams, who was a part of the record production duo The Neptunes. The team began collaborating with Pusha T and No Malice, leading to the release of their debut album, Exclusive Audio Footage, in 1999.
While the group's first major project did not emerge as successful as per expectations, they joined another record label Arista Records in 2001 with help from Williams. However, Clipse's second album Lord Willin' managed to break records in terms of sales and even reached the fourth position on the US Billboard 200.
The successful journey continued with two more albums, Hell Hath No Fury and Til the Casket Drops, that managed to receive a similar response to Lord Willin'. Apart from their solo albums, Clipse made guest appearances on the songs of other bands and singers such as Backstreet Boys and The Notorious B.I.G.
While the group's next album is already confirmed to be released this year, they performed together at the Pepsi Dig-In Day in Chicago on August 24, 2024. The event was aimed at supporting restaurants operated by blacks. In an interview with Essence at the same time, Clipse addressed their new album, with No Malice saying:
"Over the years, I really enjoyed watching my brother and just seeing the level that he took it to from where I left off with him to where he took it to, and the past 15 years for me have been a lot of reflection."
Pusha T also stated that he felt the excitement of the fans as soon as they spoke to them. He added that he witnessed the same thing online, describing the excitement as "loud."
Clipse members open up on their success and breakup in the latest interview
As mentioned, Clipse's separation was linked to the prison term of their manager Anthony Gonzales. In their latest conversation with Rolling Stone, Pusha opened up a little bit more on the split and said:
"Everybody falls victim to the industry. Not just the group. Now it's your homeboy, it's your road manager. At that time, everybody went back to what they knew."
No Malice then started to battle with his mental health issues including a health scare where he believed that he had HIV. On the other hand, Anthony's legal issue started creating more trouble for them when one of their close friends was arrested while returning from the hospital with his girlfriend and newborn child.
On the other hand, there was another friend who was stopped by the police officers while traveling with his daughter in a car. Malice recalled that he began receiving calls about the same and how worried he was when Pusha T had once failed to reach the Norfolk International Airport on time in 2010.
Malice said that he was scared at one point and when Pusha arrived, Malice told him that he wouldn't be a part of Clipse anymore. Malice addressed his reasons for doing the same and said:
"Many people didn't understand why I would do something like that. It was only because of what I saw, what it meant to me. I never condemned anybody else. This was totally about me."
Pusha also stated that he never had any problem with No Malice's decision since he "cared about how he felt."
