Hip-hop group Hot Boys recently reunited at the Lil' Weezyana Fest by Lil Wayne held on November 2, 2024. Wayne is a part of the group alongside Juvenile, B.G., and Turk. The group separated in 2001 when three members exited Cash Money Records due to alleged financial issues.
The members who left the record label include Juvenile, Turk, and B.G., and Wayne remained the only artist working with them. This was one of the reported reasons that contributed to the band's separation. As per a Billboard article from May 2024, the band reportedly had creative differences on a few occasions, and B.G. and Turk's sentencing was another factor that affected the group.
Notably, the reunion that happened on Saturday was first revealed by Wayne in a post on X on September 3 this year. Wayne added a poster featuring the group's name alongside the venue, Smoothie King Center.
The reports of the reunion first emerged in May 2024 when Juvenile said in an Instagram Live session that Hot Boys was working on a new album. He requested everyone to be patient since he was being frequently asked about the reunion and added:
"Turk gonna be with me tonight, I'm gonna be with B.G. next week. Me, Wayne, Turk, and B.G., all of us gonna be on stage in New Orleans with Mannie Fresh and Birdman. And we already done started working on a Hot Boys album. Any other f*cking questions?"
On the other hand, a video of the event was obtained by YouTuber and podcaster Victor Baez, who shared the same through social media. The clip featured the group performing the song Bling Bling. The group also performed singles like Get Your Roll On and Neighborhood Superstar.
Turk had previously addressed the split of Hot Boys in an interview
As mentioned, Hot Boys' separation happened after three members left Cash Money Records. While speaking to Vice magazine in September 2017, Turk was asked to address the situation when he left the record label along with Juvenile and B.G. He said that "fights and falling outs" are common in such cases and added:
"We were all young. When you get older you know better, you do better. So everybody, we started working again, man. As far as Lil Wayne and Birdman, they gon' work their situation out. And hopefully we'll be on tour doing the whole Cash Money thing again."
Cash Money Records was formed by Bryan "Birdman" Williams and Ronald "Slim" Williams. The brothers have continued serving as co-CEOs of the company and various artists have worked under the record label such as Blueface, Elettra Lamborghini, and many others.
Birdman also appeared for an interview with Billboard in May 2017, where he spoke about the Hot Boys' separation. He said:
"Once they left, I was like, f*ck 'em, I'ma do me, let them do them. It was fun in the beginning, but it ended up being pain at the end of them. 'Cause they ain't last, not one of them; any n*gga that left, they ain't last at all."
Birdman also stated that he never expected to see the separation, adding that it made things look like the record label was "gonna fall."
Hot Boys had three albums in their credits, starting with Get It How You Live in 1997. The group's second project Guerrilla Warfare managed to reach the fifth spot on the US Billboard 200 and the response was similar to their third album, Let 'Em Burn.
