Rihanna has graced the Met Gala since she was 19., making 10 appearances at the fashion extravaganza. Last year, RiRi made a fashionably late entry to the event with her partner, A$AP Rocky. The Umbrella singer impressed in a gigantic wedding dress designed by Valentino Couture. Due to her fashion reputation, fans hoped to see RiRi at the 2024 Met Gala.
However, RiRi did not go to the fashion event this year. In an exclusive by People, it was revealed that she stayed back home. As per a source, the beauty mogul canceled her appearance, as she was down with flu. The unexpected absence was a surprise, as Rihanna had talked about what she would wear at the Met Gala 2024.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she experienced an unexpected bout of flu after her appearance in Miami for the Formula 1 race. The singer was accompanied by her partner A$AP Rocky, who also was absent at the fashion event.
The 2024 Met Gala theme was Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, while the dress code was Garden Of Time. In a conversation with Extra in April 2024, RiRi spoke about her planned look for this year's fashion event:
"I'm actually keeping it real simple this year."
She re-emphasized that it would be different from everything she has done at her previous Met Gala appearances:
"I think it's gonna come down to what my makeup and hair is gonna do so I'm gonna play with that. I have no idea what I'm gonna do with that."
In an interview with British Vogue, Rihanna also promoted her brand while revealing what she would wear at the fashion event:
“I'm gonna wear Fenty something! Fenty Beauty, Fenty Skin, Fenty Savage.”
The Fenty Beauty founder also said that her favorite look from all her Met Gala appearances is the yellow Guo Pei gown she wore in 2015:
“Nobody will ever forget that, and I will never forget the feeling of discovering that designer based off of the design challenge that Anna (Wintour) gave me."
Prominent guests at this year's Met Gala included Gigi Hadid, Nicole Kidman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cardi B, Demi Moore and others. While it's a wrap on the 2024 Met Gala, fans hope to see Rihanna next year.
Apart from fashionable appearances, RiRi has also served as the co-chair for the fashion event in 2019.
