Why is Tate McRae ineligible for Best New Artist at 2025 Grammys? Singer's career explored

According to Billboard, that way singer Tate McRae is ineligible for the category of Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys owing to being submitted in the category 3 times in the last 3 years.

As per the Grammy rules, there is no specific maximum number of releases, however, the Screening Committees decide if an artist has achieved a breakthrough or achieved prominence before the eligibility year.

Additionally, Tate McRae's hit Greedy is ineligible for the 2025 Grammy Awards nominations, given that the song was released on September 15, 2023, and the eligibility period for the Grammy's began on September 16, 2023. Hence, her song cannot be considered in the Record of the Year or Song of the Year category.


Tate McRae's career explored

Born on July 1, 2003, Tate McRae is a Canadian singer who gained popularity at the age of 12 as the first Canadian finalist on the American reality show So You Think You Can Dance. She reached the finale owing to her training as a dancer which began at age six.

The singer also worked as a voice actor for the Lalaloopsy franchise and voiced for Spot Splatter Splash from 2013 to 2015. In 2015, Tate achieved a two-week scholarship at the Berlin State Ballet company and later danced in the music video for Walk off the Earth's song Rule The World.

She appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show with the DancerPalooza troupe in April 2016. While Tate won multiple accolades for her dancing skills, it was in 2017 that she started the Create With Tate video series on YouTube, uploading original songs she wrote and recorded in her bedroom.

The video of her song One Day which she wrote at the age of 14 garnered more than 37 million views and Tate released the song as an independent single. Her Create With Tate series lasted from 2017 to 2019, post which the singer was signed by RCA Records.

In January 2020, Tate McRae released a five-track EP called All The Things I Never Said and announced her first headlining tour across Europe and North America. Reportedly, each stop on the singer's first tour was sold out and it received a four out of five-star rating from The Independent.

Her song You Broke Me First was released in April 2020 and went on to become the longest-charting song released by a female musician in 2020 on the Billboard Hot 100. Tate's single became an international hit and reached a position in the top 10 of the music charts in countries like Canada, the United Kingdom, Scotland, Singapore, Sweden, and Australia.

Moreover, in July 2020, the exes singer was nominated for the MTV Video Music Award for Push Best New Artist. In the same month, Tate uploaded Don't Be Sad which got more than 170,000 views in a single day.

In 2022, Tate released her first album I Used to Think I Could Fly, and in June 2023, she announced the Are We Flying Yet tour comprising 15 songs. The singer announced her departure from RCA Records in August 2023 and signed a new deal with Dirty Hit.


The news of Tate McRae not being eligible for the 2025 Grammy Awards has upset her global fanbase. However, reportedly the singer can be nominated in categories like Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year for her album Think Later, released on December 8, 2023.
