Rapper YNW Melly was arrested for his alleged participation in the murders of YNW SakChaser and YNW Juvy in 2019. If Melly is convicted, he will face life imprisonment or the death penalty. The estate of YNW SakChaser and YNW Juvy have filed wrongful death lawsuits against the rapper, the first trial of which was a mistrial owing to the jury being in a deadlock.
While the rapper's retrial is set to begin in September 2025, in a new development of the case, YNW Melly's friend Fredo Bang received a notice for his videotaped deposition in a lawsuit filed by YNW Juvy's family. According to All Hip Hop, Fredo Bang's testimony is scheduled for September 26, 2024.
As per the publication, Broward County Assistant, Kristine Bradley mentioned in the first trial that YNW Melly was on the side of the road at 4:42 am after he committed the murder and that when he sent a drop pin, "a digital homing beacon" of his current location to Fredrick Givens aka Fredo Bang.
Hence, the recent deposition is bound to put Fredo Bang's alleged ties to the Melly murder trial under scrutiny.
"I know he’s ready to get it over with"- Fredo Bang comments on YNW Melly murder trial
Fredo Bang has been involved in the YNW Melly murder trial and he gave a statement on the rapper's mindset during an interview with Vlad TV on January 5, 2024. In the interview, Fredo commented on Melly's first trial being declared a mistrial and said that he felt bad for his friend.
Fredo also mentioned that he knew a lot of people who had been in the same situation as Melly and had waited for years to get a judgment.
Fredo Bang shared Melly's perspective and told the celebrity news portal:
"I just feel bad because I know he’s ready to get it over with.”
Fredo Bang also mentioned that it had been a very long time since he talked to Melly, given the Mama Cry rapper was stripped of phone privileges, because of which the two hadn't talked in a long time.
Additionally, in an interview with VladTV in February 2023, attorney Mo Gangat explained how Fredo Bang and his attorney avoided questioning in YNW Melly's first trial. Fredo had invoked his attorney-client privilege and fought to use it by telling the court that he would have to disclose his lawyer's advice during questioning.
Even though Fredo was offered immunity, it wouldn't apply outside of Miramar resulting in the judge ruling in Fredo Bang's favor to use his Fifth Amendment Right.
Commenting on Mo Gangat's analysis, Fredo Bang said in an interview with VladTV that he had to get his lawyer to defuse what the prosecutors were thinking and that he feels he might continue facing pressure from authorities till YNW Melly's case doesn't end.
In recent developments in the YNW Melly murder trial, the rapper's mother, Jamie King is scheduled to give a video deposition along with Fredo Bang as a part of the YNW Juvy lawsuit on September 26 and 27, 2024.
Additionally, the case was recently transferred from the courtroom of Judge John Murphy to Broward Circuit Judge Martin Fein who set the Melly retrial date to September 10, 2025.
