Details of Drake's legal action over Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us
According to a report by BBC dated November 26, 2024, Drake's company Frozen Moments LLC filed a legal action against Universal Music Group and Spotify over Kendrick Lamar's diss track Not Like Us. Drake's lawyers alleged that the music company and streaming platform illegally plotted to boost the streams of Lamar's diss track on Drizzy.
The petition filed in New York claimed that UMG used payolas, bots, and other methods to promote Not Like Us. Drake's lawyers claimed that UMG launched a campaign to "manipulate and saturate the streaming services and airwaves."
Moreover, the petition also mentioned the success of Kendrick Lamar's diss track, which mentioned the track was a top 10 radio hit and number one in the US charts, hitting 96 million streams in 7 days. The rapper's lawyers added that the track's success was artificially inflated. Additionally, Drake's lawyers alleged that UMG conspired and paid parties to artificially enhance the rank of Not Like Us.
The filing mentions claims that a whistleblower mentioned a podcast where they were paid $2500 to set up software bots that would stream Kendrick Lamar's diss track on repeat, resulting in the song becoming a hit. Moreover, the petition claimed that fans who asked Apple's voice assistant Siri to play Drake's album Certified Loverboy were diverted to Not Like Us.
