On October 25, 2024, American singer Chappell Roan attended the world premiere of Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour at the NYA studios EAST in Los Angeles. However, clips from the event revealed that Chappell's presence on the red carpet led to a confrontation with a photographer.
Addressing the photographer, Chappell Roan stated that the photographer was disrespectful to her at the Grammys. She said:
“You yelled at me at the Grammy party. Yes, I remember. You were so rude to me. And I deserve an apology for that. You need to apologize to me."
While the photographer seemingly remained silent during her remarks, the singer kept questioning him until someone intervened by tugging her arm. It is unclear if the photographer apologized to Chappell, as the video ends after someone from her team intervened.
"You don't get to yell at me like that"— Chappell Roan comments on interaction with a photographer at 2024 MTV VMAs
The recent instance at the Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour premiere is not the first time Chappell Roan has confronted a photographer at a public event. On September 11, 2024, the Pink Pony Club singer called out a photographer during the pre-show of the 2024 MTV VMAs at the UBS Arena.
A clip of the incident was shared by Variety on Instagram and circulated widely on social media. In the video, someone on the red carpet can be heard saying, "shut the f*ck up," prompting Chappell Roan to turn around and respond. In the video uploaded by Variety, Chappell is seen pointing toward a photographer and saying:
"You shut the f*ck up. Don't. Not me, b*tch!"
Chappell's response garnered some cheers from the crowd, with one attendee shouting, "You tell 'em, girl." Moments later, the singer shared her thoughts in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the same event.
Calling it "quite overwhelming and quite scary," Chappell said:
"I think for someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying. And I yelled back. I yelled back! You don't get to yell at me like that."
"This is a clue"— Chappell Roan teases potential track on Instagram
On October 25, 2024, Chappell Roan took to Instagram to post a series of Polaroid pictures with "She Gets the Job Done" written across every photo. The singer mentioned that the outfits in the Polaroids are part of her own merchandise, and her caption read:
"This is a clue. Just let that sink in."
Chappell released her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, in 2023 and has confirmed working with producer Daniel Nigro on another project. In an interview with Rolling Stone dated September 10, 2024, she mentioned that so far she and Daniel Nigro have put five to six songs together.
Sharing details of the same, Chappell said:
“We have a country song. We have a dancy song. We have one that’s really Eighties, and we have one that’s acoustic, and we have one that’s really organic, live-band, Seventies vibe. It’s super weird."
Apart from the anticipation surrounding the release of her new music, Chappell Roan has been in the news for her statement on TikTok about voting for Kamala Harris and for canceling her shows in DC and NYC in September 2024. She shared that she felt pressured to prioritize many things and needed a few days to focus on her health.
