Yak Gotti's mother made an impassionate speech after her son's not-guilty verdict was announced and social media users reacted to it soon. On Tuesday, December 3, Young Thug's YSL co-defendant Yak Gotti was acquitted of all charges against him. The only other remaining co-defendant Shannon Stillwell was faced with a 10-year probation for the possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Over the last weekend, only days before Gotti's not-guilty verdict, the artist was allegedly stabbed while in jail resulting in minor injuries. On the day of his acquittal, Gotti's mother Latasha Kendrick spoke outside the courtroom passionately talking about how she supported her son. She gave credit to God and praised her son's decision not to take a plea deal. Kendrick proclaimed:
"In life, you never give up. Never! You never give up no matter how bad it looks!"
A lot of social media users were not fans of Latasha's speech as they claimed that her son was not the best of people. One Instagram user, @coreyether, commented on the video of the speech shared by The Shade Room:
"Sorry OG, your Son is no saint. Be quiet, and thank God for his freedom."
Similar reactions followed as a slew of social media users downplayed Latasha's speech due to not being fans of Gotti's character. Here are a few Instagram reactions to Gotti's mother's courtroom speech:
A few users complimented the immense motherly love Latasha had for her child. However, a plethora of netizens were distracted by a woman with a pink mohawk and glasses without lenses standing behind Latasha Kendrick.
"I'm thankful I never gave up on my son": Yak Gotti's mother
As mentioned earlier, Latasha Kendrick gave an impassioned speech in front of the courthouse on December 3. This was the day her son Yak Gotti got all the charges against him dropped as the longest-running RICO trial in the history of Georgia came to an end.
Kendrick opened up about how the case affected her personal life including how she had to go to work only to come back into the courtroom, where she often slept and had to be woken up by another person. She proclaimed:
"I'm thankful to God that a mother (sic) love went beyond the world, and I'm thankful I never gave up on my son. Never!"
Latasha proudly proclaimed how her son stood up for himself by refusing to take the plea deal offered to him and how she stood by her child "every day of the week". She reassured Yak Gotti at the time that she was going to stand with him till the end, which she did. She stated:
"Every day I stood up with him. Every night I prayed with him, and I told him 'Son, this is bigger than you',"
The rapper's mother thanked the people who gave her hope and encouragement during such a time, even when people were saying negative things about Gotti. Latasha Kendrick revealed that she had bad, good, and emotional days but was never going to give up on her son, a quality she raised him by. Yak Gotti is yet to make a public statement after his not-guilty verdict.
