3 reasons why Vancouver Canucks won over St. Louis Blues
#3 Lankinen had another strong outing
Kevin Lankinen continues to be the story for the Vancouver Canucks this season. His strong goaltending has provided the Canucks with confidence amid injuries and inconsistency.
Against St. Louis, Lankinen made 24 of 26 saves, keeping the Canucks in the game on the night. While the Blues made a late push to try and tie the game, they could not get past the Canucks strong play.
Overall, Lankinen’s outing was a huge reason for the Canucks’ Monday night victory.
#2 Perfect power play
The Vancouver Canucks made the most of their chances with the man advantage, going 2-for-2 on the night.
Conor Garland and J.T. Miller got the power play tallies. Here’s a look at Garland’s goal:
The Canucks showed good puck movement, with a point shot leading to a rebound that Garland tucked in for the goal.
Miller took a lead pass from captain Quinn Hughes to bury the puck home. Miller took advantage of a St. Louis line change, leaving the Blues’ defenders unable to get back into the play.
It’s worth pointing out that goaltender Lankinen got an assist for the goal.
#1 Garland scores twice
Conor Garland had a big night, notching two goals. In addition to his power play goal, Garland opened the scoring for Vancouver at the 2:52 mark of the first period.
Quinn Hughes retrieved a loose puck after a St. Louis turnover at the Vancouver blue line. From there, Hughes led a 2-on-1 that led to Garland tapping in the shot-pass from Hughes as the diving Blues’ defender tried to take the pass away.
The goal set the tone for the night as the Canucks dominated the affair, chasing St. Louis netminder Jordan Binnington from the game.
The Canucks will be back on the ice on Wednesday night as they visit the Nashville Predators at the Bridgestone Arena.
