The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the top teams in the NHL, and with Christmas nearly here, fans have some clear things atop their wishlist.
Toronto hasn't won a Stanley Cup since 1967, but many think 2025 could be the Leafs year. But let's take a look at what will be on Leaf fans' Christmas wishlist.
Maple Leafs Christmas Wishlist
#1. A healthy Auston Matthews
Auston Matthews has dealt with injuries this season. The star forward missed time earlier this year and went to Germany to get treatment. However, just before the holiday break, Matthews re-aggravated the injury, and his status is up in the air.
"He's going to rest here over the break and hopefully he comes back in a lot better shape," Toronto coach Craig Berube said, via NHL. "He gets relief at times, but it's not good enough."
Maple Leafs fans will be hoping Matthews' injury isn't long-term so he can help the playoff run.
#2. A third-line center
Toronto has one of the best rosters in the NHL, but one of the biggest needs is a third-line center. Filling up the position will be the Maple Leafs' biggest need ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline. Adding a shutdown center who can play against the opposing team's top lines in the playoffs will be key.
Adding a center would also make Toronto that much deeper, as its top two centers would be Matthews and John Tavares, which would set up the Maple Leafs for a deep playoff run.
#3. Stanley Cup
The final wish is obvious for Maple Leafs fans, and it's finally winning the Stanley Cup. Toronto hasn't won a Stanley Cup since 1967, as since the league expanded from six teams, the Maple Leafs haven't won the Cup. It's one of the longest droughts in the NHL, but Toronto has one of the best teams in the league.
The Maple Leafs have had plenty of playoff disappointment, so the hope is Toronto can finally win it all in 2025.
