The Oilers struck early in the first period, becoming the first team to score short-handed goals in consecutive games. In the second period, Zach Hyman gave the Oilers a 2-0 lead with a powerplay goal at 1:58.

Just under four minutes later, Connor McDavid increased the team's advantage to 3-0 with another powerplay goal.

Matthew Tkachuk narrowed the Panthers' deficit to three goals at 6:53 before Corey Perry restored a 4-1 lead for the Oilers on the powerplay at 11:54. The Panthers showed resilience, shifting the momentum in their favor as Evan Rodrigues scored to make it 4-2 before the final period.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson then scored for the Cats, bringing the score to 4-3 at 4:04 of the final period. McDavid sealed the victory for the Oilers with an empty-net goal, securing his second goal of the night and the win in Game 5.

Both teams will trek back to Alberta for Game 6, scheduled to take place at Rogers Place on Friday.
