Philadelphia Flyers consider trading Cam Atkinson to San Jose Sharks

The Philadelphia Flyers might trade Cam Atkinson soon, and the San Jose Sharks want him. San Jose aims to guide young talents like Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini, but reports say Atkinson isn't keen on moving far away.

"The Flyers continue to explore options around veteran Cam Atkinson. SJ has trade interest, but sources say Atkinson isn’t keen on a move to the Sharks. Philly will eat a good chunk of the final year of his contract. Buyout is also an option, as is keeping him in the mix," Darren Dreger wrote on X.

Atkinson can choose 10 teams where he won't be traded. His contract pays $5,875,000, which could help the Sharks reach the $65 million salary cap floor. He's played 12 NHL seasons, scoring over 30 goals once. Last season, he was a top-six forward but got benched later on. He didn't play in 2022-23 due to injuries.

During the 2021-22 season, Atkinson scored 23 goals and made 27 assists in 73 games. However, his performance declined in 2023-24 with 13 goals and 15 assists in 70 games. GM Mike Grier seems prepared for a busy summer of making trades and deals as the offseason nears.
