The U.S. Olympic Team is raring to excel at the Paris Olympics 2024. For the first time, the women athletes outnumber their male compatriots. Among the 594 athletes, there are several first-timers, who are looking forward to clinching glory in their maiden Olympic Games.
On the other hand, there are several champions in this U.S. Olympic team who have outshone their compatriots in terms of both experience and the number of medals. In fact, in the current squad, there are a couple of athletes from the U.S. Olympic team who share more than 20 medals among themselves.
Here are those decorated Olympic champions who shall be aiming for Olympic glory once again at the Paris Olympics:
3 decorated U.S. Olympic champions who will be representing USA at Paris Olympics 2024 ft. Simone Biles
#3) Katie Ledecky [Swimming]
One of the most decorated female Olympic swimmers of all time, Katie Ledecky is representing the U.S. Olympic team once again at Paris Olympics 2024. This is her fourth consecutive Olympics since her debut at the 2012 London Olympics. The then-15-year-old Ledecky won an Olympic gold after winning the 800 m freestyle event.
If she succeeds in winning a minimum of 2 out of the 4 races she is competing in, Katie Ledecky shall overtake her compatriot, Jenny Thompson, to become the most successful female Olympic swimmer not only for the U.S. Olympic team but also the most successful female swimmer around the world.
#2) Caeleb Dressel [Swimming]
Paris Olympics shall be the acid test for this 27-year-old swimmer from Florida. Caeleb Dressel has a remarkable record of winning every Olympic race he has participated in, something not even Mark Spitz and Michael Phelps could achieve as the members of the U.S. Olympic swimming team.
At the Tokyo Olympics, Caeleb Dressel won a staggering 5 Olympic gold medals, becoming only the 5th U.S. Olympic swimmer to do so. Dressel is currently 4th overall in terms of the most successful male Olympic swimmers. If he wins at least 3 out of his 4 possible races, he will overtake both Mark Spitz and Mark Biondi to become the most successful American Olympic swimmer after Michael Phelps, with a total of at least 10 Olympic gold medals to his credit.
#1) Simone Biles [Artistic Gymnastics]
Even before she has stepped onto the field, this U.S. Olympic champion has registered several records to her name. For starters, Simone Biles will one of the oldest American female gymnasts to represent the U.S. Olympic team at any Summer Olympics, at the age of 27 years.
If Simone Biles wins even a single medal, she shall become the most decorated member of the U.S. Olympic gymnastics team, overcoming Shannon Miller, who is tied at 7 medals overall.
However, if Simone Biles wins more than one gold medal, she shall become one of the most successful U.S. Olympic gymnasts of all time. It would take a miracle for Biles to overcome Larisa Latynina's Olympic record though, who has won a record 18 medals for the Soviet Union, including 9 Olympic gold medals .
