
Aaron Small is a professional Kayaker. He was born on the 7th of November, 2001, and raised in Seattle, Washington. In 2016, Aaron went to Roosevelt High School and was an active member of the varsity Track and Field team competing at the State Championships. He became a member of Team USA in 2017.
Aaron Small fell in love with the sport at the age of 11, courtesy of the access he had through his mother's friend's son, who does kayaks. At the age of 16, he began to compete nationally and became more consistent in training. Two years after graduating from High school, he went to North Seattle College for a Certificate program in Emergency Medical Technology/Technician (EMT Paramedic).
In 2022, He went for a 5-month training at the National Ski Patrol for the Outdoor emergency care program. His third-place finish at the 2022 World Championships earned him an automatic spot in the A-finals. Aaron won the Bronze Medal in the Men’s Kayak Double 500m Sprint at the Pan American Games.
In the U.S. Olympic Trials, Aaron won the silver medal in the MK1 200m and a bronze medal in the 3rd MK1 500m events. He also placed fifth in the MK1 1000m. At the 2021 U.S Nationals, He won the Gold medals for the MK2 1000m and MK2 200m, silver medals in the MK1 5000m, and bronze medals in the MK1 1000m and MK1 500m events.
In 2022, Aaron participated in the U23 World Championship and won the Bronze Medal in the MK2 500m event. At the same event in the Pan-American Championships, he won the Gold medal in 2022. Aaron took part in the U.S. team trials winning gold in MK2 500m and bronze medals in the MK1 1000m and MK1 500m events. At the 2024 Pan-American Championships, he won the Gold medal in the MK2 500m and a silver medal in the MK1 500m event.
He majored in Chemical and Physical Oceanography at the University of Washington in 2019. Aaron's undergraduate thesis research was Puget Sound Pollution levels. During his four years of study, he also minored in American Sign Language before graduating in 2023.
Aaron's working experience began in late December 2022, when he volunteered as a Nordic Ski Patroller at Hyak Ski Patrol. He is also the co-owner of NW Vinyl Designs, LLC, a business that deals with customized iron-on and adhesive graphics. Aaron Small still works on part part-time basis with Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club, where he serves as a Sprint Kayak Coach to young developing athletes. He is a Phonak Hearing Health Ambassador and has hobbies in skate skiing, running, and hiking.
