Dan Coon was the MWA Regional Coach of the Year in 1994 and 1998, and he was also awarded the title of MWA State Coach of the Year in 1994.

When Adam was wrestling at the World Championships in Hungary in the Cadets division, his father was invited to be his workout partner. Dan allegedly punched his son a few times and apologized after, but it was all to make him ready for the World Championships.
