Born on October 22, 1999, in San Jose, California, she has achieved significant success across national and international stages. As of July 30, 2024, she holds the highest ranking of 29 in women's doubles with her partner and twin sister Kerry Xu.

Annie has secured multiple medals at major international events, including a silver medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago. Most recently, she participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics, representing the United States.

Xiangyang Xu and Ruizhen Zhang are Annie Xu’s parents. Both her parents are from China, calling their hometown Hainan. Annie was born with her identical twin sister Kerry Xu, who is also a professional badminton player. They also have an older sister, Wenfei Xu. Annie’s parents introduced her to various sports including ice skating, swimming, and dancing but she chose badminton. At eight, she started playing the sport in the summer of 2008. By the age of 12, Annie and Kerry were already winning USA National titles.

In 2014, Annie won gold medals in the girls' doubles and mixed team events in Guatemala City and also earned bronze medals in girls' singles and mixed doubles. The following year, in 2015, she continued her success by securing gold medals in girls' doubles and the mixed team events in Tijuana.

In 2019, Annie and Kerry achieved victory at Silicon Valley International. After the tournament, they decided to focus on their academic career, graduating from UC Berkeley and briefly retiring from international badminton. However, they resume badminton in 2022 to play in the Olympics.
