Boyd Martin is a professional equestrian, representing the United States on the international stage. Born on 20, 1979, in Australia, Boyd belongs to a sport-loving family as his parents competed at the 1968 Olympics where they first met. Boyd also has participated in four consecutive Olympics in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024. He won three gold medals at the Pan American Games in 2015 and 2019 both as an individual and in the team.

Martin began his riding career in Australia and moved to the U.S. in 2007, establishing his business, Windurra USA, with his wife Silva.

Boyd Martin belongs to an Olympian family. His mother Toy Dorgan was an American speed skater while his father Ross Martin was an Australian cross-country skier. Both his parents competed in the 1968 Winter Olympics, where they first met. Ross Martin finished 60th in both the 15 km and 30 km events. Unfortunately, Ross passed away on July 2, 2011.

Boyd Martin grew up alongside his older sister Brook and was raised in Terrey Hills, New South Wales, on the outskirts of Sydney. His native country is Australia, where he started his career in high school. After finishing high school, Martin started training at Heath and Rozzie Ryan's Newcastle Equestrian Centre for eight years. Notably, he debuted at the CCI5*-L level, where he achieved victory at the 2003 Australian International Three-Day Event riding.

Boyd Martin moved to the United States with his wife Silva in 2007. Initially, he worked as an assistant trainer to Olympian Phillip Dutton for two years. In 2009, he began representing the United States in international competitions.

Boyd Martin's Siblings

Boyd Martin's elder sister is Brook Martin. She pursued a career in athletics, becoming a professional ultra-marathon runner. Growing up in a sports-loving family, Brook's passion for running led her to compete in ultra-marathons worldwide. She completed the eighth Ultra Trail Australia 100 in May 2024, a 100km run through the Blue Mountains.

Boyd Martin’s wife is Silva Martin. She is a native of Germany and is a dressage rider, trainer, and coach, professionally. Silva passed her Bereiters exam at the German Riding School in Warendorf with top marks and apprenticed with renowned horsemen like Paul Beck and Hubertus Schmidt. Presently, she along with her husband runs Windurra USA, a premier training facility in Cochranville, PA. In 2014, Silva helped the U.S. win gold at the Nations Cup in Wellington.
