The Brussels Diamond League Final promises an intense race in the women's 100m, as Olympic silver medalist Sha'Carri Richardson takes on reigning champion Julien Alfred in a battle for the ages. The event is scheduled for September 13 and will feature seven other sprinters, each vying to take home the Diamond League trophy.

While they were always competitors, Richardson and Alfred’s rivalry shot to the forefront of the track world when the Saint Lucian outdid the American for gold at the Paris Games. Richardson had gone into the race as the reigning World Champion, and very much the favorite to finish atop the podium.

However, Alfred had different plans, and on a rain-covered track in Stade De France, she sprinted away to Olympic glory in a time of 10.72s, while her American counterpart was forced to settle for silver as she clocked a 10.87s.

After that fateful battle in Paris, the duo clashed again at the Zurich Diamond League, where Sha'Carri Richardson successfully reversed the results from the Games. She clocked a 10.88s to beat Alfred by four-hundredths of a second. Now, the two sprinters will line up at the Brussels Diamond League Final, both in the hunt for their maiden DL trophy.

Behind the two Olympic medalists, the depth of the field is impressive. Dina Asher-Smith and Marie Jose Ta Lou-Smith are staunch contenders for a third-place finish, and the two can expect a challenge from Tamari Davis and Darryl Nieta.

After a few lukewarm seasons, Asher-Smith reclaimed the spotlight in 2024, putting up consistently impressive performances. Her year has seen her win the 100m European Championships, and finish fourth in the 200m at the Paris Olympics. The Brit also has the advantage of experience as the only one amongst the nine-member field to have previously won a Diamond League trophy.

On the other hand, Ta Lou-Smith has also put up fantastic performances this season. Her season best as of now stands at 10.87s, which makes her the third fastest woman on the field this year, behind Sha'Carri Richardson and Julien Alfred.

Giving Dina Asher-Smith and Marie Jose Ta Lou-Smith a run for their money at the Brussels Diamond League Final will be Tamari Davis and Darryl Nieta. Davis holds a personal best of 10.83s going into the race, while Neita’s record stands at 10.90s.

Rounding out the field at the Brussels Diamond League will be Gambia’s Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye, Belgium's Rani Rosius, and Luxembourg’s Patrizia Van Der Weken. Rosius and Van Der Weken are the only two sprinters in the field who are yet to breach the 11-second mark, while Bittaye’s personal best stands at 10.93s.
