Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone planned to have her wedding ceremony with husband Andre Levrone in an open setting. However, a rain prediction in Virginia forced the couple to have their ceremony inside the hall at Early Mountain Vineyards, leaving the Olympian 'distraught'.
Sydney and Andre met in 2020 when the latter slid into Olympic champion’s DMs. The couple instantly hit off and would go on to build on their shared love for their faith. Shortly after Sydney won her first Olympic gold medal, Andre proposed to her for marriage in August 2021.
Nine months after exchanging rings, the couple exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in Virginia’s Early Mountain Vineyards. However, their wedding didn't go exactly the way they had planned. The 400m world record holder wanted to have her marriage ceremony outside in the lawn before rain spoilt her plans.
Speaking with The College Sports Company in 2023, McLaughlin-Levrone opened up about her wedding day, recalling how rain played a spoiler in her wedding celebrations.
"I've always been like my wedding day is dream day of my life kinda girl and so we were supposed to have the ceremony outside, the reception inside and then a week before I found out it was going to be pouring. I was distraught and I was like Andre, it's ruined. Everything is ruined. He was like Sydney, it's not about the day, it's about the marriage. I'm like I hear you but rain,” Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone said [29:00 onwards].
However, the 25-year-old added that the ceremony turned out to be more ‘beautiful’ and ‘intimate’ inside.
“But honestly, it ended up being so beautiful and intimate inside. People were like we are glad you had it inside. It wouldn't have been the same. Like I felt it made the space more warm,” she noted.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was already ‘suspicious’ of a surprise from Andre Levrone on their engagement day
While Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Andre Levrone meticulously planned their wedding, their engagement day was supposed to be a surprise for the Olympic medalist. It was, but not completely as McLaughlin-Levrone had become suspicious.
"I was in Arizona celebrating my birthday with a group of girlfriends and I was very suspicious that he was going to just pop up. I wasn't sure why," she said (via The Knot).
Andre eventually showed up, and got down on one knee.
“I honestly don't remember what we talked about. I kept thinking, don't fall. Don't look ugly in these pictures. It was so sweet and very surreal,” she recalled.
The couple celebrated the Olympic champion’s birthday together this year in Greece, a few days after the 25-year-old won two gold medals at the Paris Olympics.
