Simone Biles' husband Jonathan Owens has once again expressed his love for the gymnastics legend as the power couple celebrated their 1st wedding anniversary on April 21.
Biles and Owens tied the knot last year on this date in an intimate wedding ceremony with only relatives and close friends in attendance in Houston, Texas. Later in May, the couple celebrated the occasion with a destination wedding at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, which was expected to be attended by 140 guests.
Celebrating the anniversary, Simone Biles shared a series of pictures of the couple enjoying each other’s company. She expressed her love for husband Jonathan Owens, calling him to be her ‘best friend’ and added that she was excited for many more anniversaries to come.
"this is your sign to marry your best friend. happy 1st anniversary 🤵🏽♂️🤍🤞🏾👰🏾♀️🕊️ I’m excited for many more to come. I wish I could marry you a million times more! I love you so much!", Biles wrote.
Owens, who signed with the Chicago Bears on a two-year contract in March, also couldn't stop expressing his joy on the auspicious occasion of their 1st wedding anniversary. He expressed his love for Biles in the comment section of her post and wrote:
"Crazy how fast time flies when you’re with your best friend. To many more baby!!!! I love you so much 🖤"
Owens also uploaded a story earlier on his Instagram handle on the occasion of 1st wedding anniversary. Claiming that time had flown fast, the NFL star stated that he loved Simone Biles a lot.
Simone Biles ‘broke down’ after Jonathan Owens received criticism on ‘catch’ comments
In December 2023, Jonathan Owens appeared in a podcast, Pivot, and claimed that men were always the ‘catch’, suggesting he was the one in his relationship with Simone Biles. However, it didn't go down well with Biles’ fans, with some even calling on the Olympic champion to end her marriage with the NFL player.
Biles has now clarified Owens’ comments while also revealing that the criticism he was getting had hurt her feelings.
"He never said I wasn't a catch," she said on Call Her Daddy podcast. "He said he was a catch because he is. I've never met a man like him. A lot of people that meet him are like, oh my gosh. I want a man like that, like Jonathan."
The 27-year-old added that she found the criticism to be ‘hilarious’ at first. However, Simone BIles said she ‘broke down' after having had enough when it picked pace on social media platforms.
"I thought it was hilarious what people were saying divorce him, divorce him. Then, like, one night, I broke down, and I'm like, 'Why are you guys talking about my husband like this?'", she expressed.
