Jennie Gai is an American badminton player who was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, and resides in Fremont, California. She stepped on a badminton court at the age of eight for the first time after an outing with her father to a local community badminton court. This sparked her interest in the sport, and she began training at a local badminton club on a weekly basis.

She started competing in the junior division when she was just eight years old. Her debut in the adult arena was marked at the 2016 Badminton World Federation Uber Cup. She is currently ranked 149th in Women’s Singles and 29th in Mixed Doubles (XD) in the world.

She has added multiple prestigious accolades to her resume with a plethora of competitions in her career. The Fremont-native has had a stellar career at the Pan American Games and Championships. She has also excelled in the Pan Am Mixed Team Championships, Pan Am Female Cup, and Pan Am Junior Championships.

Gai recently squared off at the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games, where she nabbed two silvers in the women’s singles and mixed doubles. She is also a three-time Pan American Championships medalist (2018, 2019, and 2024), where she nabbed one bronze in the women’s doubles, one bronze in the women’s singles, and one silver in the 2024 mixed doubles.

She is also a three-time medalist in the Pan Am Mixed Team Championships (2019, 2023, and 2017). Jennie Gai clinched gold in the 2017 Markham Pan Am Junior Championships in the mixed team. She also achieved three silvers in two different iterations of the competition (2016 and 2017). Not just this, she also clinched gold in the Youth Olympic Games. She will now be making her Olympic debut at the Paris Olympics 2024 with her partner, Vinson Chiu.
