Born in New York City, and raised in Montclair, New Jersey, USA, Jesse Grupper was born on January 6, 1997 to Jonathan and Cathlin Grupper. He started climbing at the age of six and has had the dream of competing in the Olympics since his childhood. He drew inspiration from watching the decorated swimmer Michael Phelps compete in the Olympics, since climbing wasn’t an Olympic sport then.

Grupper has pursued his education at Montclair High School and completed his degree in mechanical engineering at Tufts University. He has an exceptional academic background and has also involved himself in volunteer work. Despite all his skills, he had his eyes set on climbing and started competing in climbing events at the age of nine.

For the past four years, Jesse Grupper has been indulging in research at Harvard’s John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He is designing exosuits and some other devices for the assistance of post-stroke and other paralysis patients. He smoothly connects climbing engineering together to make it easy for himself. He is currently associated with a part-time role in the biodesign lab and works from his temporary home, which is close to the USA Climbing Facility in Salt Lake City.

Grupper competed at the 2023 World Championship and has experience in World Cup events. He nabbed a bronze medal overall in the 2022 IFSC Climbing World Cup in the competition lead climbing discipline. He recently squared off at the Pan Am Games, where he stood atop the podium in combined bouldering or lead. This triumph allowed the climber to book his tickets for the Paris Olympics 2024.
