John John Florence, born on October 18, 1992, in Pupukea, Hawaii, developed a deep love for surfing at a young age. Inspired by his mother, Alexandra Helen Florence, a surfer herself, John John was introduced to the waves as early as six months old. By the age of five, he was already riding them on his own.

Presently, he is known as one of the most dominant pipe surfers of his era and won back-to-back world titles in 2016 and 2017. He followed this up by claiming the Triple Crown of Surfing two years in a row ( 2020 and 2021). Moreover, he has eight WSL Championship tour wins to his name and was the winner of the 2023 Vans Pipe Masters along with Moana Jones Wong. Lastly, he's headed to the Paris Olympics later this year where he would be looking to finally add an Olympic medal to his collection.

He put on a remarkable performance, scoring points that overtook even some seasoned professionals.

By 18, he was already making waves in the competitive scene. However, fate threw him a curveball in 2011 when a surfing accident at the Banzai Pipeline left him with a broken back.

John John Florence’s Later Career

After graduating from Kahuku High School, John John Florence's career skyrocketed. He joined the World Surf League (WSL) and quickly made a name for himself on the professional circuit. In 2016 and 2017, he achieved the height of success by winning back-to-back world titles, becoming the first Hawaiian surfer to accomplish this since the late Andy Irons.
