Born on October 6, 1995, Justine Wong-Orantes is a libero for the United States Women’s National Volleyball Team. She is of Chinese-Filipino descent on her mother’s side and Mexican descent on her father’s side. Her parents, Winnie Wong and Robert Orantes, played volleyball. Her father also serves as a coach for the Mizuno Long Beach volleyball club. Wong-Orantes excelled in beach volleyball partnering with Sara Hughes and earning an AAA rating at just 12 years old. She attended Los Alamitos High School in Cypress, California. There she played as a setter. During a high school club tournament when she was asked to play as a libero which caught the eye of Nebraska head coach John Cook. She went to the University of Nebraska.

At Nebraska, Wong-Orantes played both beach and indoor volleyball. Her accomplishments include AVCA First Team All-American in 2016 and Third Team All-American in 2015. She was a two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and concluded her collegiate career as Nebraska’s all-time leader in career digs with 1,890. She helped her team in Nebraska's 2015 NCAA National Championship victory. She won gold at the Pan-American Volleyball Cup and bronze at the Volleyball World Grand Prix for the American national team in 2017. She was named to the 18-player roster for the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Nations League, which will take place in Rimini, Italy. She earned the title of the tournament’s best libero as Team USA secured their third consecutive gold medal. Wong-Orantes secured a spot on the 12-player Olympic roster for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in June 2021. Her exceptional serve reception percentage and defensive acumen helped the U.S. team’s historic first-ever Olympic gold medal win. She was honored as the best libero of the Olympics. She is a two-time Olympian as of 2024 with one gold medal to her credit. She has also played in the World Championships in 2022 and ranked #4th in the women's team event.
