Kelly Cheng has officially become a two-time Olympian in 2024. Her journey began in Fullerton, California. She started her high school volleyball at EI Dorado High School in Placentia, California. Kelly earned her first accolades in her high school as All-CIF Division 1A and Orange County Register All-Orange Country first team. Kelly teamed up with Sara Hughes, which resulted in them securing the bronze and the silver medals at the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships and the FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships in 2013 and 2014. Cheng then played college beach volleyball for the USC Trojans. She reunited with Sara Hughes in her sophomore year and sealed the victory by winning the AVCA Paris National Championship and was named a 2015 AVCA All-American. Cheng and Hughes transformed their Junior and senior years by grabbing back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2016 and 2017. With Sara Hughes, Cheng in her first professional year, grabbed her first AVP Gold Series Championship in Chicago. This duo, emerged as the youngest team to win an AVP event.
Kelly Cheng made her Olympic debut in Tokyo in 2020, where she ranked #9th in the women's team event. More recently, she competed in her second Olympics in Paris 2024 in the women's team event. Besides the Olympics, Kelly Cheng also made her appearance in the World Championships, where she won a gold medal in 2023.
