Lindsey Vonn, born on October 18, 1984, is a former alpine ski racer and a US Olympian. Vonn is one of the most decorated alpine ski racers, who is also a gold medalist in the Olympics and has won 82 World Cup events. Hailing from a ski enthusiast family in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Vonn was encouraged to take up skiing from an early age. She was the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in Womens’ downhill.

Vonn’s long list of achievements includes four World Cup overall championships, three Olympic medals including one gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, 16 World Cup season titles in the disciplines, Super-G, Downhill, and Combined, and 20 World Cup globe crystal titles, which was a record at the time. After an illustrious career, she retired in 2019, after complications due to severe knee injuries.

Lindsey Vonn was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota to Alan Lee Kildow and Linda Krohn Lund as their eldest child on October 18, 1984. They also had four other children. Alan Kildow started out as an Alpine ski racer and was successful in junior competitions but he had to hang up his ski boots at the age of 18 just before the national championship call-ups due to a career-ending knee injury. He carried on his passion for skiing through his daughter Lindsey Vonn with the support of his then-wife and Vonn’s mother Linda Krohn. Alan Kildow later studied law and worked as an attorney.

Vonn’s mother, Linda Krohn, moved to Colorado so that her daughter could practice competitive skiing. Her family followed a year later. Linda Krohn was a psychology graduate and lawyer who worked as a public defendant and drug counselor, helping people throughout her career. Alan Kildow and Linda Krohn ended their marriage in 2003. She later remarried. In 2021, she was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and died a year later on August 26, 2022.
