She graduated from UCLA with a degree in Physiological Science and was an athlete on the university's water polo team. In 2022, she was honored as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Player of the Year and became UCLA’s all-time leading scorer with 251 career goals.
At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Maddie was named MVP of women’s water polo after contributing significantly to Team USA's gold medal victory by scoring 18 goals, one of the highest totals in the competition. Previously, she had also been part of Team USA's gold medal-winning squad at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
