Markus Edegran is a renowned American competitive sailing and kitefoil racer. Born on September 22, 1993, in Mt. Kisco, New York, United States, he is the son of Harald and Debbie Edegran and the younger brother of Lukas Edegran, a Navy sailing alumnus. Being surrounded by sailing excellence from a young age, Edegran began his sailing journey early at the age of 8 and racing by 10. Edegran attended the Hackley School where he graduated in 2011. He was a three-sport athlete in high school playing soccer, squash, and sailing.
He secured second place at the 2009 c420 Nationals and first at the 2010 c420 Team Race Nationals. He continued his sailing career at the United States Naval Academy under the guidance of coach Ian Burman. During his time at Navy, Edegran sailed in 12 events as a skipper and achieved significant placements including a ninth-place finish in A division at the ICSA National Semifinals. His collegiate sailing career was marked by victories at the ODU Spring Open and Tom Noble Team Race, and a commendable performance in the ICSA Nationals in Austin, Texas.
Edegran transferred to the St. Mary’s College of Maryland. His accolades include a second-place finish at the Jesuit Open at Fordham, a fourth-place finish at the Laser South at Navy, and being named to the MAISA All-Academic Team. In his final collegiate season, he earned First Team All-MAISA Coed Skipper honors. Edegran’s transition to kitefoil racing in 2018 added a new chapter to his competitive career. He is currently ranked #4 in the world. His career highlights include competing in the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago in the Formula Kite Men’s category and participating in three World Championships with a top finish of 15th place in 2021.

Adam Werblow's Coaching Career
Adam Werblow has entered the 36th season as the head coach of the St. Mary’s sailing team. Under Werblow’s leadership, the team has won 17 national titles and over 150 individual All-America honors. He was inducted into the ICSA Hall of Fame in 2015 for his coaching prowess which extends beyond collegiate sailing. He has been the head coach for the U.S. Youth Worlds Team eight times and achieved the best record ever in 1991 with two gold and two silver medals.
In recognition of his contributions, Werblow was named the Developmental Coach of the Year by U.S. Sailing’s Olympic Sailing Committee in 1999.
