Micah Maʻa was born on April 16, 1997, in Kāneʻohe, Hawaii, to Pono and Lisa Strand Maʻa, both professional volleyball players. He currently plays as a setter for both the U.S. men's volleyball national team and Halkbank Ankara. He excelled in various sports during his high school days at Punahou School before graduating in 2015. During that spell, he won titles in football, basketball, and volleyball. In his senior year, he was named the Hawaiʻi State Volleyball Player of the Year.
He played volleyball with the UCLA Bruins for four years and was the runner-up in the NCAA national championship in 2018. During his freshman season in 2016, Micah Ma’a was named among the AVCA first-team All-America, first-team All-MPSF, and Off the Block's Server. He majored in political science and graduated in 2019. Before this, Micah Ma'a had already experienced success by winning the NORCECA U19 Championship with the youth national team in 2014.
In 2019, he played for Stade Poitevin Poitiers and won the French Cup in his first season. After that, he left for GKS Katowice in Poland and spent two years there. Micah Ma’a’s Sister: Misty Ma'a
Misty Mia is Micah Mia's sister. Misty is an outside hitter volleyball player and is 6’1” tall. She went to Kamehameha (Honolulu) High School and hails from Kaneohe, Hawaii. During her time with the high school volleyball team, Misty won the Gatorade State Player of the Year (2010), Impact Player of the Senior Invitational Tournament, and was a three-time HHSAA state champion (2008–2010). She was named among the top 10 players at the Durango Classic in Las Vegas and the HHSAA All-Tournament Second Team in 2011.
In her senior year, she helped her team become the HHSAA State Championship runner-up. Misty majored in communications at the University of Miami. Her sophomore season in 2013 was incredible, recording 26 stars in 28 matches with 239 kills, 256 digs, and six double-doubles. Misty is now into modeling and is also married.

Micah Mia's sister, Maluhia Maa, is a model, artist, fashion designer, and creative director. She works for Renew Artists Hawaii, a modeling agency based on the island that specializes in worldwide model placement.
During her high school days at Kamehameha Academy, she won the championship title in 2017, received honorable mention of All-State as a sophomore, and was a two-year letter winner. Maluhiaa also helped the team at the USAV Girls' Junior National Championships in 2018 and 2019. She currently resides in Kaneohe, Hawaii, in the United States. In 2020, she studied fashion and apparel design at Kent State University. During her four years at the university, Maluhia played for the women's volleyball team, playing as an outside hitter (OH).

Micah Ma'a Sister: Mehana Ma’a
Micah Maa's sister, Mehana Maa, grew up in the bosom of the Ko‘olau Mountains in Kane'ohe, Hawai‘i. Mehana was born on December 2, 1999, and is currently 24 years old, as of July 2024. She attended Punahou School during her teenage years. She played varsity basketball and was a setter on the volleyball team. During her playing career, she participated in nine tournaments. She won a gold medal at the Women's NCAA II (2019/20), a silver medal at the Women's NCAA Big West Conference (2022/23), and a gold medal at the NCAA II, California Collegiate Athletic Association (2019/20, 2018/19).
Mehana played for California State at San Bernardino University, USA (2018/19–2020/21) and UC Santa Barbara, USA (2022–2022). She studied communications at California State University-San Bernardino in 2018 and played for two seasons. The Coyotes went on a winning streak of 33-0 this season and won the D-II National Championship in 2019. Mehana provided 675 assists in that same season. She later left to major in communications and media studies at UC Santa Barbara in 2021.
In 2022, Mehana served as a 3-month head JV Sand Volleyball part-time coach at Dos Pueblos High School. On March 6, 2023, she was recruited as a coach assistant at Southern Mississippi University, USA. She currently works part-time as a coach for Rancho Valley Volleyball Club, Inc., and East Beach Volleyball Academy. Mehana is a UCSB alumna and an experienced women's volleyball coach who also enjoys discussing mental health and personal growth.
