Micah Ma'a is an American professional volleyball player of Hawaiian descent, who is set to make his Olympic debut as a setter for the U.S.A Men's Volleyball Team at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The 6 ft 4 in (192 cm) tall Olympian began his athletic career by winning the State Basketball Championship after enrolling as a student at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 2013, he clinched the State Football Championship as a second-year student. After two years, he joined the Pacific Rim Volleyball Club and won the 2015 USA Volleyball Boys Junior National Championship.

Micah made the U.S.A. men's national team debut in 2018 against Argentina in a friendly match. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a degree in political science in 2019. In 2022, he participated in the Turkish Men's Volleyball League and the CEV Champions League after signing with Halkbank Ankara, a professional volleyball team based in Turkey. In 2024, he took home the Turkish Championship with Halkbank Ankara. As of now, he has secured eight medals by participating in more than eleven competitive events.

Micah Ma'a’s father, Pono Ma'a is a professional volleyball player who was born on November 5, 1964, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Pono played volleyball for the University of Hawaii in the early 1980s. Instead of accepting a baseball scholarship to Southern California, he chose to go to Italy and play volleyball for three years there. After their eldest child Misty was born, Pono and his wife Lisa flew back to Hawaii.

As a volleyball athlete, Pono has played a total of 23 matches in his career at the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) beach tournaments in the United States. He is a two-time All-American while studying at the University of Hawaii. He has also served as a coach for a successful junior volleyball program. He is currently employed at Kamehameha Schools in Hawaii, United States, as the Executive Director of the Pauahi Foundation and Director of Advancement.

Micah Ma'a’s mother Lisa Strand-Ma’a was born and grew up in Santa Barbara, California, United States. Lisa marked her 61st birthday on May 8, 2024. Like her husband Polo, Lisa began her volleyball career while studying at the University of Hawaii in the early 1980s. She helped the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Volleyball team to capture the National Championships in 1982 and 1983. In 1981, she earned her degree in Communications and Dental Hygiene at the University of Hawaii, United States.

Following that, Lisa relocated to California, United States, and started playing Beach Volleyball. Over her 7-year professional beach volleyball career, she played 77 matches and earned 18 medals. She won a gold medal at the WPVA tournament in 1990 and a silver at the AVP Tournament in 1993. She has been working as a sports reporter for Spectrum Sports, covering the University of Hawaii's women’s and men’s teams, for the past 23 years.

Lisa is available on Instagram under the username '@lisastrando', where she has amassed over 210 followers by sharing more than 220 posts by July 2024. She is also active on LinkedIn which highlights her transition from a 34-year career as a Registered Dental Hygienist to becoming the owner of Hapa Hawaiian Salts. Since November 2018, she has managed Hapa Hawaiian Salts, creating Hawaiian seasoning salts with fresh, local ingredients and partnering with local farms and Kualoa Ranch. Operating from Hana Kitchens, the business supports small local enterprises and is now in over 60 stores in Hawaii.
