The NCAA Gymnastics national semifinals will get underway on Thursday, April 18, and the competition promises some extraordinary performances from teams and individuals alike. The event starts at 3:30 PM CT in the Dickies Arena with the first set of teams, while the latter four teams will be in action at 8:00 PM.
First up in the mat will be No. 2 LSU, No. 3 California, No. 12 Arkansas, and the only unseeded team in the top eight, Stanford. The Arkansas Razorbacks and LSU Tigers come into the meet after topping the Fayetteville regionals while the California Bears and Stanford Cardinals made up the top two at the Berkeley regionals.
For the Razorbacks, this is the first time they've made it to the elite eight in six years. The team's appearance in Texas will mark a first for head coach Jordyn Wieber. The team has had a strong 2024, opening the year with a season-high and ending with a program record.
The LSU Tigers walk into the Dickies Arena as the reigning SEC champions and boast a strong roster of gymnasts including the likes of Haleigh Bryant. Their appearance in the NCAA Gymnastics semifinals is their 33rd overall.
Meanwhile, this is only the second time the Bears have made it to back-to-back nationals in their program history, and the Cardinals come into the competition very much the underdogs.
The challenge at the second NCAA Gymnastics semifinals will be spearheaded by the No. 1 team in the nation, Oklahoma. Joining the Sooners will be No. 4 Florida, No. 5 Utah, and No. 8 Alabama.
Oklahoma has been a dominating force this season. Their year has seen them top the chart every single week, set a new national NQS record, and win their 15th Big 12 Gymnastics title.
The Gators are making their 40th Championships appearance and will be gunning for their fourth national title. Meanwhile, qualifying for the elite eight has helped the Red Rocks keep alive their streak of making it to the NCAA Gymnastics nationals every single year without fail.
Lastly, for the Alabama Crimson Tides, this is their 39th overall appearance in the nationals, but first under coach Ashley Johnson. They have looked strong all season, and certainly pose a threat in Texas.
