She has an injury and was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia, which made her quit being a sprinter. Nevin began her canoeing career at age twelve at the Seattle Canoe and Kayak Club, She found her passion for sprint canoeing during a summer camp where a counselor advised her to try out the sport.

In 2017, Nevin joined the USA Team and competed at the ICF Olympic Hopes Regatta in Račice, Czech Republic, winning a silver medal in the C-1 1000 meters, and gold medals in the 500 meters and 200 meters for her age group. The following year, at the ICF Olympic Hopes Regatta in Poznan, Poland, she secured the gold medals in both the C-1 500 meters and 200 meters.

In 2019, Nevin switched Teams to the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club Racing Team in Gainesville, Georgia. In the USA Team Trials in Oklahoma City, she won the senior and junior C-1 1000 meters, 500 meters, and 200 meters. That same year, she made history by winning a gold medal in the C-1 200 meters at the Canoe Sprint World Championships, this made her the first American to win a World Championship in sprint canoe.

In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, at age 19, Nevin won a gold medal in the women's C-1 200 meters. In 2022, she secured another world championship title in the 200-meter sprint. Recently, she qualified for the U.S. Olympic quota spot by finishing fourth at the 2023 World Championships and won the U.S. Olympic trials in March.
