Quincy Wilson has had an extraordinary 2024 season, winning an Olympic gold medal at just 16 years old as part of Team USA. Now, the youngster has added yet another major honor to his list of accomplishments, as he was given USATF’s Youth Athlete of the Year award, and he recently expressed his gratitude for the same.

Wilson kicked off his 2024 season competing indoors, winning the 500m race at the Virginia Showcase in January, finishing first. He followed this up with top-of-the-podium finishes at the Millrose Games and the Ocean Breeze Elite Invitational. In March, the youngster competed at the New Balance Nationals Indoors, winning the 400m finals with a time of 45.76s and setting a new World U18 indoor world record.

Quincy Wilson began competing in the outdoors 400m in late March and claimed gold medals at the Pepsi Florida Relays and the New Balance Nationals Outdoors. He then arrived at the US Olympic Trials, where he set a U18 outdoor world record of 44.66s in his heats. Two days later, he clocked a 44.59 in the semis to improve upon his own world record. The runner finished sixth in the finals but was named to the US Olympic team as part of the relay events.

Right before the Paris Olympics, Wilson improved upon his own world record yet again when he ran a 44.20s at the Holloway Pro Classic. At the Games, the 16-year-old participated in the 4x400m relay heats and was awarded a gold medal by extension when Team USA stormed to the top of the podium in the finals.

Now, the American has been honored with USATF's Youth Athlete of the Year award for his incredible season. Reacting to this news, Wilson wrote on his Instagram story,

“So blessed and thankful.”
